Then they set the numbers against smoking, and the result came back ugly. A nonsmoker who avoided the sun had the same life expectancy as a smoker who soaked it up. In the authors' own words, dodging the sun is a risk to your life of the same order as a cigarette habit.

They sold you a factor 30 carcinogen-blocker and never mentioned that the thing it blocks was helping keep your heart alive.

A Little Gun History…

Authoritarian regimes have repeatedly disarmed targeted populations before mass atrocities. While gun control alone doesn’t cause genocide, history shows that confiscating arms from civilians makes oppression and mass killing far easier.

Key 20th-century examples:

• Ottoman Turkey (pre-1915): Weapons were confiscated from Armenians. 1915–1917: ~1–1.5 million Armenians killed in the Armenian Genocide (massacres, death marches, starvation).

• Soviet Union (1920s onward): Strict firearm controls helped totalitarian rule. Stalin-era and related policies: ~20+ million killed via purges, Holodomor famine, Gulags, and executions.

• Nazi Germany: 1938 law relaxed rules for Nazi supporters but disarmed Jews and others. 1933–1945: Holocaust + related killings ~11–17 million victims (6 million Jews + millions of others).

• Communist China (post-1949): Strict gun control enforced. Mao’s regime: 40–70+ million deaths from democide, Great Leap Forward famine, and Cultural Revolution.

• Cambodia (Khmer Rouge, 1975–1979): Population disarmed. ~1.5–2 million killed in the Killing Fields (~25% of population).

• Guatemala (1960s–1980s): Targeted disarmament amid civil war. ~100,000+ Mayan Indians and others killed.

• Uganda (Idi Amin, 1970s): Restrictions accompanied mass killings. ~300,000+ deaths, including Christians and opponents.

Tens of millions died at the hands of their own governments through democide. Historian R.J. Rummel estimated over 200 million victims from such regimes worldwide in the 20th century.

Law-abiding citizens obey gun laws. Criminals and tyrants do not.

Guns in honest citizens’ hands deter crime, enable self-defense, and raise the cost of tyranny. The Founders knew this when they passed the Second Amendment.
