#FAOSWALIM enhanced Somalia’s capacity in land suitability analysis for major crops, training staff from @NBS_Somalia, @imcsomalialand and @imcpuntland. Delivered through 3 weeks online plus 1 week practical, the course supports evidence-based agricultural planning.

The Director General of @imc_puntland, together with technical experts from the center, participated in the 72nd IGAD Climate Outlook Forum (GHACOF 72), convened by the IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC) for the Greater Horn of Africa, under the theme:

“Advancing Climate Services to Strengthen Community Resilience and Support Sustainable Development in the Greater Horn of Africa.”

The forum brought together climate scientists, government institutions from the Horn of Africa, development partners, media, and civil society organizations to deliberate on the regional climate outlook for the Gu’ seasonal rainfall of (March–May 2026 ) and its potential impacts on key livelihood and socio-economic sectors.

Puntland Normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI) from 6-15 May indicates an improvement in vegetation condition, in terms of pastures and forbs as some districts experienced average Gu' rains, and this could improve the livelihood and animal body condition in the districts.

Comparison of satellite-derived Normalized Difference of Vegetation Index(NDVI) anomaly time series data years 2020, 2021, and 2022 indicates a complete loss of vegetation cover and pasture condition for all #Puntland regions due to inadequate Gu’ rainfall distribution.
