ODPP and FIDA-Kenya Strengthen Partnership on Gender-Responsive Administration of Justice

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions today hosted a delegation from the Federation of Women Lawyers Kenya (FIDA-Kenya), led by its Executive Director, Ms. Sophie Kaibiria, for discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation in the administration of justice and advancing gender-responsive practices within the prosecution service.

The engagement focused, among other areas, on FIDA-Kenya’s planned gender audit of the ODPP. The audit will be undertaken across the ODPP offices in the country and is expected to provide an assessment of the extent to which gender considerations are integrated into the Office’s policies, structures, programmes and operations.

The exercise is intended to identify existing gaps and opportunities for strengthening gender equality and inclusivity within the institution. Its findings will also provide a basis for recommendations aimed at enhancing institutional practices and ensuring that the prosecution service continues to respond effectively to the diverse needs of women, men and other groups.

Within modern economic framework, debt is increasingly presented as an economic necessity rather than a political choice. This tendency has been especially visible in discussions of Africa’s political economy, where European dependence on African mineral wealth is often obscured beneath the language of equal exchange between sovereign states. Such arrangements compromise sovereignty through the maintenance of comprador elites and economic structures that privilege external interests. Political participation – both in the West and in many African states – thus, increasingly concerns consumption, preferences, and recognition rather than extraction, labour, ownership, and production. Citizens remain politically visible as consumers but increasingly invisible as producers.

Ending a crime you created and sustained isn't heroism — it's the bare minimum.

While the verdict delivers long-awaited justice, the systemic issues remain; the toxic culture of transactional sex, relentless victim-blaming, and how society routinely protects powerful men at the expense of young women's lives.
