Last week, ITU-T Study Group 20 meeting concluded in Geneva, following the 3rd #UNVirtualWorldsDay, and the 2nd Citiverse Assembly, bringing together experts advancing standards for #AI, #IoT, #DigitalTwins and smart sustainable cities.
During #UNVirtualWorldsDay, I had the privilege of moderating the Ambassadors’ Roundtable on delivering the Global Digital Compact.
Key outputs of the events included the UN Executive Briefing on AI in Cities, a Call to Action, and new guidance supporting future-ready cities under the Global Initiative on AI and Virtual Worlds. More information: https://t.co/gOwxP0dQe8
SG20 also saw strong engagement from the global standards community, with growing contributions from ITU membership. A key outcome was the establishment of the new Focus Group on AI for Smart Sustainable Cities & Communities. Explore More: https://t.co/LBtLUZW4RA
On behalf of ITU/TSB, with @ITUTSBDirector, I thank to SG20 Chair, the management team, and all experts for their continued commitment to ITU’s standardization work.

As @WHO convenes its annual World Health Assembly in Geneva (#WHA79), #DigitalHealth#AI and trusted health information are at the forefront of global discussions.
This week, I shared ITU’s perspective across several events, focused on three priorities :
🔹Cyber‑resilient health systems
As healthcare adopts connected care and #AgenticAI, standards must embed trust, resilience and human oversight by design.
Join our upcoming #AIforGood workshop on trust management for Agentic AI.

🔹Trusted digital health transformation
Addressing AI-generated #healthmisinformation requires #standards, policy and digital literacy to evolve together. ITU and partners are advancing multimedia authenticity standards to strengthen #trust in digital content:

🔹 AI for health
Through the Global Initiative on #AIforHealth led by ITU, WHO and @WIPO , we are advancing collaboration on benchmarking frameworks, data quality and auditing of AI systems — helping ensure AI benefits all countries Read the recent report:

Great to see🇹🇳leadership on #DigitalHealth
Two intensive weeks of #ITUCouncil 2026 🇺🇳 concluded in Geneva, marking an important milestone on the road to @ITU#Plenipot this November, where Member States will shape ITU’s strategic direction for the next 4 years.
For TSB, Council 2026 reaffirmed strong support for advancing #AI mandates from #ITUWTSA, scaling #AIforGood, and supporting countries in implementing international #AIStandards.
Progress was also made on international numbering frameworks📞+ collaboration on AI skills, women in AI, and digital innovation.
@ITUTSBDirector and I sincerely thanks @DoT_India for announcing the transfer of the WTSA-24 hosting surplus to support implementation of key WTSA Resolutions, and warmly welcome Uzbekistan’s invitation to host WTSA-28 in Samarkand.
Momentum now builds toward the @AIforGood Summit and #WSIS Forum 2026 in Geneva this July, including the first UN Global Dialogue on AI Governance.
Thank you to all Councillors and Member States for their continued engagement and collaboration.

The first meeting of @ITUstandards newest focus group will set the agenda for pre-standards work on embodied AI and multimedia as AI takes physical shape in areas like robotics and self-driving vehicles. Our focus groups are open to all experts https://t.co/wfA0ZGlFKz
Today we celebrate the power of young women and girls to drive digital innovation and shape our digital future.
Through initiatives like @ITU’s Network of Women, we promote women’s leadership in tech & standards: https://t.co/ieMSJwNuDH
More girls and women in #STEM and #standards are essential.
Happy #GirlsInICTDay!

Honoured to join remotely the Industry Workshop at ASTAP‑38 in Bangkok and exchange with Asia-Pacific Telecommunity members & industry leaders on how to turn emerging technologies into interoperable solutions.
The Asia and the Pacific region is a major source of innovation and a key partner in this effort.
Emphasized industry engagement: bringing real use cases, testbeds & experience into ITU-T helps scale trusted, safe, inclusive innovation faster.
Highlighted initiatives linking industry to standards, incl. the AI for Good platform: https://t.co/hljR1l7bYR
Thank you to APT and all participants. Industry engagement is a key priorities of @ITUTSBDirector

A privilege to return to Tunisia 🇹🇳 for a mission marked by strong engagement with national authorities and the diplomatic community.
I had the honour of holding bilateral meetings with:
◆ H.E. Mr. Mohamed Ali Nafti, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad
◆ H.E. Dr. Mustafa Al-Furjani, Minister of Health
◆ H.E. Mr. Noureddine Nouri, Minister of Education
These exchanges provided some unique insights on Government needs and questions related to AI for Diplomacy, AI for Health, and AI for Education. They reaffirmed our shared commitment to inclusive digital transformation grounded in international standards and highlighted the role of the ITU in supporting this work.
At the Tunis Diplomatic Academy, I had the pleasure of addressing Tunis-based diplomats on #DigitalGovernance, #DigitalCooperation and the role of #AI in today’s diplomatic practice.
I was equally delighted to contribute to the 11th Forum International de Santé Numérique, where I highlighted the work of the @ITU on AI for #Health, and how standards can enable more inclusive, trusted, and resilient health systems.
Grateful for the warm welcome and rich exchanges
