I started posting my real loads, fuel receipts, and truck note because nobody talks about what a reefer owner-operator actually keeps.
Thanks for riding along. What should I break down next: a full week's settlement, fuel, or what a backhaul really pays?
@millenialtruckr Parking at the receiver the night before is the best feeling. Wake up already there instead of fighting traffic at 5am. Safe miles this week, and enjoy that Texas warmth Friday. Minnesota reefer life is already getting cold up here π₯Ά
Love seeing a lane finally pay like that. Reefer side, the gap between loads is still brutal for me. One week in October my backhaul from Newport News VA paid $2,500 against $5,100 on my other load, about 51% less. Curious if Ontario holds near $3.29 once the Black Friday freight clears.
@bobbyloads No reefer number in the recap, but that diesel line is the one I feel. One recent week fuel ate $2,975.66 of my $6,480 share, about 46%. And the reefer runs its own tank on top of the tractor.
@BeaglTech Watching this from the reefer side out of the Midwest. Peak always shows who planned ahead. The trucks that ran for fair rates all summer remember who treated them right when it was slow.
@John__Ferguson Upper Midwest reefer at 10.22 to 1 is the run out. Coming home is the other half of the story. One week in October my backhaul from Newport News VA paid $2,400 against $4,080 on my other load, about 41% less. Gotta price the round trip, not the one leg.
@3FatTruckers Empty reefer on ice is the worst. Light trailer, Minnesota wind, and every overpass turns into a rink. Slow and smooth wins, and if it's bad enough, park it. No load is worth sliding into the next lane.
@funkytuna17 Hours on paper don't teach you an icy ramp at 80,000 lbs. Running reefer out of Minnesota, winter doesn't care what your certificate says. Train them right or don't hand them the keys.
@patrickmbrenner Rail can take the long boring miles, but somebody still has to get the cold stuff to the dock on time. Reefer trucks aren't going anywhere.
@freightcaviar From the carrier side, the brokers who verify fast and call from a real number are the ones I trust back. Theft slows everybody down, and slow costs drivers money too.
@bobbyloads $6.35 national average, and I paid $6.299 at a Kwik Trip last month, plus reefer fuel on top. Van at $3.06 all in is rough with diesel where it is.
@TedFyockJr If I'm empty and the reefer's pre-cooled, 4 hours is fine. If I'm halfway through my 10, no. But the empty truck usually wins that argument.
