@stickers_thecat@juliet_turner6@juliet_turner6 I was also going to suggest this. Not an ideal solution but pro tem, it might be helpful. They’re fairly easy and cheap to install. Meanwhile, a big shrub in a pot for outside the window.
@Anji2019@TransChicken2 Seem to remember bread poultices from my childhood but exactly why is now a mystery. My mum definitely used soap and sugar poultices for splinters, which were v effective and ‘drew’ the foreign object to the surface.
@2000Jschn@dieworkwear The article says it needed extensive renovation so it probably didn’t cost much. If it was an auction property it could have been pretty inexpensive. They moved from Sussex which is much pricier.
@page_jason79468 @UltraDane RIP that amazing lady. What a delightful interaction between her and the children. I lost my mum at 97 and she had the same outlook, always looking forwards.
@UpFun23799@historyinmemes It *was* a rehearsal - the general rehearsal with audience invited at the Concertgebouw. The lack of concert clothes is the giveaway. She’d been asked to step in for someone else at the last minute. But still, kudos to Pires for recovering so brilliantly.
‘Look, no goo!’ insists Fanny Cradock, as she mashes down the uncooked insides of her burned choux buns, before ladling in runny pastry cream and icing in a lovely shade of dishwater green. Classic Christmas fare. #BBC4
@StuartHumphryes Another rather amazing thing is that the camera taking this photo is more or less outside the Royal Polytechnic, where in the same year, 1841, Richard Beard opened Europe’s first-ever photographic studio. Incredible to think of 2 pioneers in the same place.
@StuartHumphryes The white building to the L of the church is where Broadcasting House is now. Originally old Foley House stood there on what’s now Portland Pl. John Nash wanted a straight road past his church up to the Park but residents objected - hence the curve.
@JoshR319@networkrail@GarethDennis@NetworkRailEUS Euston is beyond abysmal, the screens are terrible and the late departure annos will cause a serious incident one of these days. Also, the disgusting women’s loos, crumbling and dysfunctional, are an utter disgrace in a major station in a capital city.
@StuartHumphryes@Alex_Bobsleigh It was Madame Edith Clarke, ‘costumier’, at 132 Regent St. That’s Mappin & Webb’s street address today though the building/frontage has clearly been remodelled
@owlerine@Philip_Redhair@StuartHumphryes@Terranesia Those are 2 different houses. Shakespeare lived (and died) at New Place, which no longer exists. He was probably born at the house in the photo in Henley St, which as Philip says was left to him by his father, John. Not sure there’s any conflict there?
@Phil_McNamara@EuroAthletics If you have Sky you can put it on the red button, channel 970. It’s been on for the morning & evening sessions - stumbled across this myself by chance. But for some inexplicable reason there doesn’t seem to be any coverage today until 7 this evening
🙄☹️
@dieworkwear This is a delicious thread. CG’s perfection will never be surpassed and thank you for showing exactly why. Meanwhile I’m still laughing in disbelief at that crumpled mess of a darted shirt…
@Damage_13@Glinner@campbellclaret Dear God, that court report - ‘in mitigation, he had no previous convictions for sexual offences’. That’s mitigation now? It was his first time as a rapist so let’s go easy on him??
@ancientnmodern We once went on holiday to a Greek island where one cafe lured the punters with a promise of ‘toast under beans’. No mention of whether it was bescorched, sadly.
@LNRailway what’s happening with online tickets? Trying to book an off-peak return & the option has totally disappeared - only Anytime, Travelcard or single tckts available. Cost of normal journey has leapt up by over 30%! What?!!
