It went into lunar orbit, rendezvoused w/ the command module (and the astronaut left in there), separate from the spent lunar lander, and fire its engines to escape lunar orbit. Artemis is taking advantage of what’s called a “free return” trajectory

This means that while in lunar orbit the far side of the moon was mostly dark for the Apollo astronauts
