In last year’s election for governor, voters in Asian neighborhoods across New York City sharply increased their support for Republicans, shifting to the right by a significant margin compared with 2018. https://t.co/ZEM4L4zyCd
Precinct data is a *complicated* beast. But it enables some of the most rewarding stories about voting shifts & the nuances therein.
Glad to have contributed to @jasonYkao’s masterful piece today analyzing rightward shifts in NYC’s majority-Asian areas:

@jaycaspiankang Thanks for sharing our story Jay. Many sources noted the importance of Peter Liang — and more broadly, how the Chinese immigrant community saw themselves in relation to Asian Americans and Black Americans — in these electoral shifts
@ProfDBernstein Hi David, that's a good point — it is an open question whether Asian Americans are a meaningful political community. We use the word "Asian" in the story as a way to open that discussion and unpack voting patterns by ethnicity, class, and immigration generation.
This is as clear a visualization and reported explanation as I've seen of one of the biggest shifts in last year's midterms.

I dug into the history of Asian actors at the Oscars to find out just how few of them there have been and who they were. Turns out there has only been 23 Asian actors out of 1,808 acting nominees.

Video released on Friday shows how Tyre Nichols suffered a severe beating by Memphis police officers after a traffic stop. He died three days later.
Here's a visual timeline of key moments from the lethal encounter. https://t.co/rvBgs2HtMC
@bobbywellison Hi, I am a graphics reporter at The New York Times. We're trying to verify where the shooting took place. Could you share w me the source of the images? My DMs are open
I'm walking out with 1,150 of my @NYTimesGuild colleagues — including all 32 fellows in the union — for a fair and complete contract.
This contract is more than an investment in us: This is an investment in the future of the @nytimes and an investment in the public that we serve
🧵Our GA precincts story published this weekend.

After 20 months of negotiations, enough is enough: Today I joined more than 1,000 of my @NYTimesGuild colleagues in pledging to walk out if @nytimes does not agree to a complete and fair contract by Dec. 8. We know what we’re worth.
New today with @ddknyt: we analyzed the congressional districts of House members who objected to the 2020 election results and found they shared common characteristics in ways we didn’t know. https://t.co/e1vpEYg8E7 1/
the @nytimes wants us back in the office. we want management to bargain with us in good faith. i’m working from home this week along with 1,300 of my @NYTimesGuild and @NYTGuildTech colleagues, with support from @wirecutterunion
