"Please make sure everyone calls you Dr. Ramasubramanyam" - final comment from the jury and examiners! I'm still overwhelmed but wow what a feeling! Thank you to everyone who shared this awesome moment with me! I'm gonna ride this high for a while #PhDone#elprofesor
“There is no God but God, Muhammad is his messenger,” the paramedic is heard saying. He asks God for forgiveness and says he knows he is going to die.
“Forgive me, mother. This is the path I chose — to help people,” he said. “Allahu akbar,” God is great, he says.
So I guess everything the IDF said a few days ago about those paramedics in Gaza was not true at all.
NYTimes just released this video found on the cell phone of one paramedic.
Completely contradicts everything the IDF said.
Update: I have been terminated by Yale Law School and the LPE Project.
What we are witnessing unfold in the United States is not the failure of democracy—this *is* Western liberal democracy itself. 1/2
The is yet another stark reminder that institutions will quickly discard courageous scholars who bravely stand against oppressive structures and practices! In solidarity with @Helyeh_Doutaghi
You are shocked by how Trump treated Zelenskyy. But this is not new behavior to us. This is merely new to you because you are shocked to see a European treated in this way.
Africans, Asians, and Latin Americans are routinely treated like this. But - out of humility - they do not complain.
Syed Hassan Nasrallah (1960-2024). He led the Resistance, which will not bend but grow as his memory and example seed a new generation. He fought for his people despite the immense personal cost and was hated by his enemies because he defeated them.
I saw him speak in Beirut in 2013, a most impressive man and a brilliant strategic thinker. His loss is a blow to Lebanon, but he has taught two generations how to succeed him.
He is drinking now from the fountain of Kawthar.
Long in the making & pleased to share: My article, 'Invisibilization of the Unwanted Others? Feminist, Queer, and Postcolonial Perspectives on the 1951 Refugee Convention's Drafting,' has been published open access in Women's Studies International Forum.

As we mark 75 years of the Geneva Conventions we also mark 310 days of Israel’s genocide; 57 years of Israel’s illegal occupation; and 76 years of Israel’s ongoing Nakba and Israel’s systematic violations of every tenant of the Geneva Conventions with full impunity. Everyday and every second of Israel’s illegal presence in Palestine is a violation of the Geneva Conventions.
Teaching is inherently political. Students aren’t passive objects but active change-makers. As profs, we should empower them to push for change. Pedagogy should reflect our times. Resistance to this is often aimed at certain subjects, that deepen marginalization. #AcademicChatter
I have long been uneasy about a growing compulsion for academics to bring political agendas into teaching and research. (I believe political views are private and that the lecturer has no right to use their platform for propaganda.) Turns out I wasn't just imagining this.
Their father Mohamed Abu al-Qumsan had gone to get their birth certificates. When he returned, he found his wife and the twins killed by an Israeli missile that struck their home. The ink on their birth certificates is barely dry and now he has to process their death certificates
I don't know how many times I watched it and cried, because she is so incredibly strong and deserved it to win. She kept going, didn't give in to the dehumanization and hatred and got the gold medal she deserved.

A year of protest against the federation chief.
Slept on pavements for 40 days.
Was beaten, dragged by the police.
Nearly immersed all her medals in the Ganga.
Underwent knee surgery.
Sealed her Olympic spot after an unforgiving qualification process.
Became the 1st Indian woman wrestler to qualify for three successive Olympics.
And now, she's beaten the unbeatable defending champ, won two more bouts to become the first Indian woman to reach a wrestling Olympic final.
Words fail to appreciate what Vinesh Phogat has just done.

I can't overstate the significance of today's ICJ advisory opinion. Major takeaways:
— Israel's occupation of Palestinian territory* is illegal & must end as rapidly as possible
*this includes Gaza
— Israel's conduct amounts to racial segregation & apartheid
