4. Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is probably an STI

BV affects about 30% of women. It's caused by changes in the vaginal microbiota, but it's not currently considered an STI

This randomised-controlled trial in women with BV had two groups 1) Standard therapy (treating affected women with antibiotics) or 2) Antibiotic treatment both of women and their male partner

Treating male partners (in addition to affected women) led to a striking reduction in recurrence of BV

This means BV is probably sexually-transmitted, and we should probably start treating the male partners of affected women
