Almost 10 years ago, Lucas Ferreira (@lucasdcf), co-founder of @Vinteum_org, turned to Bitcoin in an effort to avoid a pyramid scheme.
He'd just graduated from university with a degree in anthropology.
Wanting to have a social impact, he considered pursuing a PhD.
However, he decided against it when he figured out there wasn't space in academia for all of the students entering the PhD program to become professors.
"It was actually a pyramid scheme," Ferreira said about academia.
He found Bitcoin soon after coming to this realization and quickly got involved in the space.
And his involvement ever since has not only been a boon for Brazilian 🇧🇷 Bitcoin developers but for the Bitcoin space at large.
I documented Lucas's incredible contributions in the piece below.
Enjoy!
Mining decentralization is a big priority for us too. We’re funding @plebhash’s work on Stratum V2, @johnnyasantos’ work on P2Pool V2, and training fellows like @jayrmotta on Mujina and @VCestarii on IPC work that interfaces with mining projects. Looking forward to collaborating with Localhost in yet another area.
@plebhash@luisschwab_@karpathy Been enjoying deepseek v4 as well!
On the local/FOSS workflow, it's the dream, but it doesn't seem to be feasible to have anything near as good as the commercial models yet.
@AkitaOnRails has a good blog post on that in case you aren't aware.
We’re live for the 4th 256 Foundation Telehash!
Donating hashrate is our favorite way to support open-source Bitcoin mining development, and we haven’t missed one yet.
Tune in to learn about the 256 Foundation’s non-profit activity, advances in the Bitcoin network, and see how you can help.
Also vibes. Impeccable vibes.
🤓Stratum V2 firmware support has landed in NerdQ firmware, adding SV2 support to:
NerdQaxe
NerdQaxe+
NerdQaxe++
NerdOctAxe
NerdAxeGamma
Shout out to Wario_is_here, and Shufps for their work on making this possible.
@Airbtconline 6⃣ First self-hosted node
7⃣ First Stratum server connected to your node
8⃣ First petahash
9⃣ First receive from a coinbase transaction
🔟 First block found
Had to reflect over the past two years, as it's been an incredible journey.
Affordable mining hardware has been no easy task, but with a lot of effort and discipline, we've reached an amazing milestone we're excited to share with you all.
Two weeks away from TELEHASH#4, live from @bitcoinpark_ in Austin Texas!
Join us in person or online while we attempt to solo mine a block (again) for FOSS mining development.

@avoidbit@ZK_shark Not sure I got why you mentioned 51% attack, I meant a sybil attack against the pool. Would it be possible to game the payout system by splitting one's hashrate across several identities (<address>.<worker name>)?
