We can now see that cutting edge AI models are becoming more and more gated as each day passes. I feel that the following will become much more important moving forward.
- We need to get increasingly creative and flexible with using any and all AI models. With the right experience and knowledge I'm certain that we can get close or even exceed frontier performance from any AI model.
- Don't get too locked into an AI model. We need to be comfortable regularly switching up the models we use on a regular basis.
- Local AI models will become more powerful as the frontier becomes more gated. From what I have seen from local models, 2026 is showing that local is where a lot of the action and innovation will be coming from going into the latter part of the year.
Things are definitely heating up on all fronts. As we all continue to use and build with these tools we will find new ways to push the models to get the performance that we need.
Fable 5 is coming back soon.

If you have been thinking about building a home AI lab, now is the time.
Some ways to get going with local inference quickly.
- Buy a PC or Laptop with RTX GPUs or AMD AI class cpu
- Use a Mac mini with 16gb to 32gb RAM
- Buy a Strix Point or Strix Halo class AMD PC or Laptop
- Get a Nvidia DGX computer
Start doing everything you can to learn how to use and build on local inference.
As the local models get better and better you will be ready to use them.
As a result of a US government directive, we are suspending access to Claude Fable 5 for all users. You can continue to use all other Claude models.
Hereโs what this means for you:
Across Claude products, new sessions will run on your selected default model or Opus 4.8, and existing Fable 5 sessions will end with an error.
On the Claude Platform, requests to Fable 5 will also return an error. Please update your integrations to other Claude models.
We know this is a disruption to your workflows; we appreciate your patience and support.
