@ShriramKMurthi It seems clear to me that the choice of server, which implies a choice of moderation policy, is incredibly important. I had an existing mastodon account on <some server>, tried to search for you, and was told that your profile had been hidden and might be offensive.
@ShriramKMurthi@lexi_lambda I think nextdoor is super-valuable; I think that "toxic cesspool" *is* your neighborhood. (And mine, to be clear). That's what people are actually like, when you don't have twitter & facebook to show you only things you agree with. Or so I claim.
@dabeaz@elfprince13@ShriramKMurthi@joepolitz so in some sense, the only real problem here is the error message, which should perhaps report that e is not currently bound to a value. problem solved?
@NYTGames Tip to save your marriage after you mistakenly click this option: go to 'account>account settings>share the times>bonus subscriptions' and add an account. if you have one available.
@WalterPickhardt@NYTGames Are you referring to the "bonus digital access subscription" that appears to be available in "Account > Share the Times" ?
I am fully prepared to mask up in crowded places, healthcare settings, around vulnerable people, etc. for the rest of my life. I don’t see how we do it any other way. I wish we as a society would accept and normalise this
@disconcision Wow, sorry I haven't seen this earlier! Possible takeaways for the stepper's interface (which I am absolutely not in love with at all): vertical layout of steps enables natural scrolling interface, repl interface enables configurability as evidenced by hide.
@jeremyjkun@ShriramKMurthi No, but I label them clearly to indicate that I don't personally stand behind their correctness. (Specifically, I label them "regression tests", which is obviously not clear, hence my desire to know the right term!)
@AlexJonesax GHC has Shake, and Racket/mflatt is now developing zuo, which is based on similar ideas. Still declarative, but has a richer set of dependency primitives & not based on shell scripting. Disclaimer: though I will probably soon get to know it well, to date I have never used it
@jeremyjkun@ShriramKMurthi I think the key difference (should have said this!) is the fact that I don't stand behind the correctness of these tests. I'm basically saying "I have no idea if this is correct, but it's how it behaves right now".
ugh ugh searching for reference to self-guided 10-lab intro to shell, linux, editors, etc. offered by... students... at ... berkeley? search still not good enough for me, sigh.
@ShriramKMurthi@noelwelsh I'm not cool enough to see the tweet that started this, but would this be an appropriate place to mention shrubbery? https://t.co/b1cYVEMs9Y
