If you believe in something, like slowing climate change or minimizing suffering for example, you should be willing to accept inconveniences. That's what it means to be a human with values. Act on them or acknowledge you're a part of the problem.
Can't believe I'm actually tweeting but i have to vent on why this position is frustrating. Where does the systemic change come from if individuals continue to do nothing but buy into the existing system? Of course there is personal responsibilty.
People have a hard time separating these two things, a lot of ethical veganism emphasizes personal responsibility (or that's what we think of vegans!) but it's way more valid IMO to simply be in favor of eventual system-level reform and accepting whatever consequences from that
The excuses have grown tiresome on me. Waiting for systemic change while fueling that system isn't helping. The inconvenience of changing your diet is just that. An inconvenience.
@mcmansionhell I was lucky enough to visit Riverbank a couple times. They gave tours (and occasional internships) to local acoustics students. Their reverb chamber was a fascinating space especially when you get to see the huge rotating diffuser!
@sundress_bangs This is one of the reasons I love bird collision monitoring! 50% animal rescue/citizen science, 50% chill mornings walking around downtown listening to podcasts.
Buckle in.
Position Statement of @BirdFriendlyChi Coalition
Launched in 2016, Chicago bird advocacy organizations, supporting scientists, founding members, and committed citizens of the Bird Friendly Chicago coalition have been focused on achieving one crucial goal: ... 1/x
@Segway_Batman Noise nerd here. I think the short, likely answer is that like everywhere else, IL doesn't implement Type II noise abatement projects which would be the way to address this. More complicated than that, obviously. But the best way to address a noise issue is at the source, so...
This is a Bizarro Chicago I Spy page of inconsistencies only possible through terrible AI bs. Embarrassing to make something like this and try to pass it off as an actual photo.
A few of the worst, most obvious things:
- the person running to their death
- the at-grade, short train downtown
- the weird pedestrian bridge/subway stair combo
It's easy to take a decent photo downtown. The city does a lot of the work for you. We don't need this shit.
