Despite all the gore and sexual violence, Gods Fare No Better is at its core a story about the power of friendship turning despair into a blade powerful enough to cut through the endless pointless stories we’re buried under. It is anti-nihilistic. It’s a grimbright story. That’s why it feels alive.

I liked The Backrooms a lot. It felt like a movie made by someone who’s never seen a movie before. I felt this way about Obsession too. There are some interesting things happening with these young horror directors. Unique vocabularies for strange, cold stories.
