@KLysitza@KIN110UofR I liked learning about the theories! I definitely had a functionalist theory view before, but now I realize the many other things I should be considering when it comes to sport.
@FaithJasper4@KIN110UofR I can see why this would happen, but personally it would be cool to see the players who have been on the team for a while, step up and be good role models by carrying the equipment and what not. When it comes to number picking I think, the older players have the right to pick 1st
@CelinaEarl@Jonatha04261250@KIN110UofR Yeah I feel like what people deem as violent can be subjective too. So what I see as quite violent might not seem as violent to someone else.
In preparation for our next unit lecture on Violence, I found this article by The Canadain Public Health Association. It talks about how violence can have both short term & long term effects on one's well-being. https://t.co/fsBPG1oUQw #Violence@KIN110UofR#kin1102019
Throwback to our discussion on 'Sneakerheads'. Check out Harrell's collection! #kin1102019@KIN110UofR I think I would do the same though if I was a wealthy NBA player too. #subculture
@Bustariems@HolmanMackenzie@SavageJayd@KIN110UofR Personally, I would not consider playing hockey to be deviant because being aggressive and violent is not breaking the rules or violating norms in the context of a hockey game. #deviance#kin1102019 Nick, perhaps, when the fighting gets out of control it could be called deviant?
Hey @KIN110UofR & class! Say you were one of the top hockey athletes in Sask. knowing the low probability of making it pro in sport who would still invest a lot of time and money in the sport in hopes of making it to the NHL? (or another sport of interest) #socialmobilitymyths
@CarlyShamray@KIN110UofR The article talks about what it means to be a โrealโ athlete. To not back down from challenges or external pressures. I think itโs sad that athletes feel that they have to conform to this, as injuries often result in life long negative health effects. #KIN1102019#conformity
@SavageJayd@KIN110UofR I once got asked to climb buildings downtown with some โfriendsโ, otherwise known as Buildering. I declined and was glad I did cause I later found out that they got chased by the cops for doing that. #deviance#KIN1102019
@Jeanettekin110@KIN110UofR Yes I think if someone doesnโt end up succeeding in what they are pursuing they might find that they havnt investing in many relationships outside of the sport and donโt know what to do with their time instead of that sport. An identity crisis could definitely occur.
@Bustariems "Concussion detecting" technology is coming out now to help take the guesswork out of concussions. Helmets with sensors are most commonly seen in Football helmets, but this sensor has a multi-sport use! If all athletes in contact sports were to wear these it could help a lot!
@CelinaEarl@KIN110UofR Interesting article! It says that โotheringโ athletes is at the core of Canadian racism in sports. It also mentioned how Chan would probably get finanaical support in addition to popularity from China. I wonder how the financial support part would work. #racism@KIN110UofR
@BrianaGellert@KIN110UofR I agree, people want convenience. However, there can be healthier options for takeout as well. Such as, smoothies, bowls, wraps ect. In saying that though some people will not care about the healthiness of their food and just buy what they crave. #sugartax
