One week in: 180 New Yorkers on the map.
Building in public, so here's the honest part: signups are the easy number.
The one I actually care about is how many of them meet someone in real life, and come back to do it again.
We're already planning our next marketing sprint, but marketing alone won't keep anyone around. So we're improving the product at the same time based on what our first users told us.
A social app that gets downloads but no meetups is just another feed.
Founders: what's the one metric you actually judge yourself by?
We had one every day since day of launch!
Tuesday: photo bus for free photobooth pics
Wednesday: a map wall with an interactive activity for people to draw in profile pictures
Thursday: LED truck with a quote driving around NYC
Friday: Launch party at a bar with all our users
Saturday: partnership activity with a run club
I definitely think for distribution, IRL and social media activations both matter! But for IRL activations moving forward, we are going to target it more so for the app than just to have a cool event
@thenightshipper Thank you Abhishek! Lots of IRL activations for us for the first week. Cool! Definitely actual usage of product is so important -- no point in acquiring users if no one actually uses it
Out of every IRL activation we ran in NYC, the most scans came from neon paper and scotch tape that says "stop being a chud, be more chalant, be my friend."
What's the scrappiest thing that's ever worked for your growth?
