Washington, D.C. needs to hear from farmers directly that USMCA is a good deal. This trade agreement is responsible for 1.1 billion bushels of annual corn grain exports alone. That’s a market American farmers can’t afford to lose. Click here to sign your name and tell President Trump that farmers need market stability: https://t.co/064n2ao35p
.@MosaicCompany, you’re right that U.S. farmers are facing a difficult economic situation, only made worse by the extra $6.9 BILLION they have had to spend on fertilizer since you petitioned the government to place duties on imported phosphorus. This has played a major role in fertilizer pricing in recent years, yet you failed to mention this action in your list of market forces. You have an opportunity to support America’s farmers, those who are growing the food and fuel our world needs, during one of their most challenging seasons: drop your petition to continue duties on imported fertilizers.

How the Fertilizer Industry operates.
1. They control supply
They can run plants harder or slower, schedule maintenance, delay restarts, etc.
If supply tightens even a little, prices jump fast.
2. They control storage + terminals
If you control where product sits (tanks, terminals, river points), you control who gets it and when.
3. They use imports as a ceiling/floor
They allow imports just enough to avoid shortages, but not enough to collapse price.
4. They price off each other
Fertilizer is a “follow the leader” market.
CF / Nutrien / Koch / Mosaic raise prices everyone else magically matches.
5. Dealers follow the posted market
Retail doesn’t want to undercut hard, because they’ll get squeezed later or lose supply relationships.
6. U.S. fertilizer companies file a petition saying:
“Foreign fertilizer is being dumped here below fair value.”
7. The government agencies (Commerce + ITC) investigate.
8. If they rule in favor of the domestic producers, the U.S. imposes:
•anti-dumping duties (AD)
•countervailing duties (CVD)
Those duties can easily be 20% to 40%… sometimes way more.
It creates a price umbrella
CF Industries-First nine months of 2025:
• Profit of $1.05 billion.
CF’s operating margin ~31%
That was an increase compared with the first nine months of 2024 (about $890 million) — roughly an 18 % rise year-over-year.
Nutrien-First nine months Profit $1.7 billion.
Mosaic-Total profit for first 9 months of 2025 -$1.06 billion.
Corteva-Corteva reported approximately $1.65 billion in Profit for the first nine months of 2025, which was a meaningful increase (around +73 %) compared with the same period in 2024.
.@SecKennedy You promised farmers they wouldn’t have concerns with the MAHA report, but we have read the report, and we do have concerns. We’d appreciate the chance to meet with you and share more about what modern farming really looks like. Our president, Illinois corn farmer Kenneth Hartman Jr., is ready when you are.
Thank you @USTradeRep and @POTUS for shining a light on the trade issues facing corn growers, including barriers to ethanol trade with India and high tariffs placed on U.S. corn imports to Kenya. We have worked to elevate these and other issues with policymakers and are very pleased and appreciative that you are listening!
