seeing lots of companies set budgets by tokens/department, or tokens/eng
is anyone setting tokens based on taste and performance ROI yet?
"Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them."
Imagine how different geopolitics would be if the sober/earnest “we need $100M to build computers that can work on stochastic problems” would have be legible to investors
USA. Summer. It is 95 degrees outside, and I am shivering inside a sandwich shop.
I have discovered how Americans forge strong souls.
Outside, the sun is trying to kill everyone. Inside this small restaurant, it is winter. My breath does not fog, but it is thinking about it. A man near me is eating a cold sandwich while wearing a jacket. In summer. Indoors.
In Japan we would simply turn it down. Americans do not turn it down. And now I understand them better than they understand themselves.
This cold is not an accident. This cold is a gift.
The owner has built, inside his shop, a second season. He invites you in from the brutal heat and hands you the one thing the sun has denied you all day: a reason to be cold. To endure it is to be tempered. You walk in soft and sweating. You walk out sharp and clear, a slightly stronger person than you were.
So I did not complain. I removed my outer layer and offered it to the woman at the next table, who was hugging herself. She said, "Oh, no, I'm fine, thank you." She was not fine. Her lips were blue. But she, too, understood the training. She would not break first. I respected her deeply.
The owner asked if everything was okay.
"It is perfect," I said, through my teeth, which were chattering. "Thank you for the winter."
He said, "...I can turn the AC down if you want?"
I told him no. A man does not ask the mountain to be shorter.
I stayed two hours. I ordered a hot coffee to survive. Then a second one, to hold. By the end I could no longer feel my hands, but my spirit had never been clearer.
So now, on the hottest days, I seek out the coldest rooms. I sit. I shiver. I sharpen.
And when I finally step back out into the summer heat, and it wraps around me like a warm bath, I feel it.
Reborn.
A man who has survived the winter, in August, indoors, for the price of a sandwich.
PSA for young people
in the 90's, you went to the doctor anytime you wanted, paid a $20 copay, and never got an unexpected bill
I hope you are radicalized.
@T_Zahil The only thing I’ve found:
It is multi-player with my wife in the telegram chat, for a shared project (she is not technical and needs an agent researcher)
Will go back to Codex for all other use cases
Alternative to “AI wash” layoff theory
B engineers used to be benign; just ignore them. Now they are demanding 20k line slop PRs be reviewed daily (the new bottleneck) and shipping security and regulatory violations (the new risk)
Management hand is forced
Many talking about questionable tactics used to fundraise for AI circa 2019
Few talking about how different/wimpy VC was at that time. There was no honest path to raising $1B to go after trillion $ TAM with $0 rev
Both deserve reflection if we want more major innovations
@nickbaumann_ Do your COS thread prompts look like:
"for project A do this"
"for project B do that"
Or do you work in each project thread to keep context separate?

George Washington on domestic manufacturing:
“Ought our country to remain in such cases dependent on foreign supply, precarious because liable to be interrupted? … this mode cost more in time of peace, will not the security and independence… form an ample compensation?”
If John Calvin were alive in 2026, I imagine he would organizing something like Garry's election guide, but with each congregation discussing the role of their faith on public life, then the aggregated role of many churches together.
when you hear "turf war of applied philosophy" between the pope and technoking...
probably worth doing a mental exercise on what's similar and different about a Pope Gregory VII, Henry IV, 100 year war analogy?
I've been talking about Jesus benchmarks and evals for 12+ months, but didn't have the courage/funding to do it
really glad to see @timhwang doing it. Very fun interview:

My wife's grandfather was buried at Jefferson Barracks this weekend with 250,000 other soldiers going back to the civil war
Remembering them on this Memorial Day
May they be with Jesus and may their sacrifice be honored
The best aquarium in the US is the Bass Pro HQ in Springfield
The best kid’s museum is City Museum in Saint Louis
The California mind cannot comprehend without visiting. Highly recommend
@AlecStapp 1/ food security is a good thing. I was glad to have abundant cheap California grown food in all recent supply chain crises
2/ you didn’t mention approx 50% of water is sent to the ocean for very questionable “environmental” reasons like delta smelt
