First, see the other perspective.
Love social-impact startups, new ideas, usable innovations, authentic & whole people.
Pushing teams and communities forward.
Vancouver’s startup scene has no shortage of talent, energy, or community, but what we do lack is centralized access, a clear view of who’s building what, where to plug in, and how to actually get involved.
That’s exactly what I’ve tried to solve with this, a guide to Vancouver’s startup ecosystem.
From programs to people to events to spaces to investors, it’s everything I wish I had when I was trying to figure out where to start. Think of this as your all-in-one resource to help you understand where to look for with respect to events, programs, people to follow and fundraising!
Inspired by the amazing guides from Toronto and Montreal, this one’s built with Vancouver in mind, just in time for Web Summit and Vancouver Startup Week!
Check out the guide. Share it with a friend who just moved here. And if I missed your favourite founder watering hole or secret Slack group, drop it in the comments!
Because if we’re going to build great startups here, we might as well know where to find each other :)

“Entrepreneurship has HUGE ups and DOWNS. Even as your company gets bigger, the volatility doesn’t change, you just get used to it.”
I used to say this all the time. Now, I’m tired of this narrative. And in fact, I’ve come to see it as UNTRUE.
Yes, there’s a lot of movement in a dynamic startup. But the ups and downs are something I created by the stories I told myself but the facts of the actual business.
Here’s 2 examples:
EX 1:
- Fact: Signing a BIG CLIENT
- Story: We are going to sign 10 more! We’re going to big the biggest co in this space!! We’ll be RICH!!!
EX 2:
- Fact: Top employee resigns to go to a competitor
- Story: 10 other employees will quit! The competitor will beat us. It’s going to be so hard to replace that person.
The facts are not necessarily volatile, but the stories create the rollercoaster!
Be aware of your stories and don’t believe them and those classic “UPS AND DOWNS” of entrepreneurship disappear…
🎉Some exciting news: I'm working on my next book!
It's about embracing uncertainty. For research, I hope to chat with folks who have dealt with doubt and uncertainty in their lives.
