Today is Toronto's 224th consecutive day with a maximum temperature above 7C. That's weird, I was told that there was snow on the ground 6 months of the year?
In summary, Ford's bike lane removals will, according to a new City Hall report:
- Cost $75 million in direct costs and sunk costs.
- Make traffic much, much worse for at least nine months during construction to remove lanes
- Have minimal long-term impact on car travel times.
I encourage all who are engaged + passionate on this matter to submit your comments to the provincial government: https://t.co/FYxm156Cps. You have until November 20, 2024.
Also, you can call + email your local MPP. Find yours here: https://t.co/IXh26IyFTW
The Bloor Annex BIA knows - they have the data. "The number of customers and monthly spending at our stores increased after the bike lanes were installed."
Bike lanes are good for Buisness. Cyclists stop frequently and shop, while drivers rushing to and from the suburbs as part of their daily commute? Not so much.
Bike lanes are good for small businesses. If you want to use Bloor as a through corridor, and you want reduce congestion, take the subway.

"All of the evidence we’re seeing tells a very compelling story – bike lanes are good for business, they improve safety for all road users, and reduce congestion."
Businesses on Bloor Street @BloorAnnexBIA , where @fordnation wants to eliminate bike lanes.
.@NeilLumsdenMPP standing in front of @88EricLindros, a helmeted hockey player who ended his career early due to concussions, telling cyclists they need helmets & common sense instead of bike lanes/safe infra is unconscionable.
A 2.6km stretch of Bloor St - a major arterial in Toronto - was transformed in 2016 from 4 lanes primarily serving cars and trucks to 2 lanes for cars and 2 protected lanes for bicycles. @TCATonline and the City studied its impacts. It bears repeating a few key results: #biketo

Like all regular people in America's heartland, JD Vance studied at Yale, had his career funded by Silicon Valley billionaires, and wrote a bestseller trashing that community.
Come on.
I can't wait to debate the guy—that is, if he's willing to get off the couch and show up.
