Steep HIV funding cuts are casting a shadow over the UN High-Level Meeting on HIV, as new analyses warn some countries could face near-total reductions in U.S. support by 2030.

3 of 17 African countries with spine, have backed out of the lopsided America First health agreements. Africa must use her resources to build/sustain the enabling environment for local data & pathogen processing, so PABS is not Pathhogen ABSCESS and Benefit SCAMMING.
⏰The US is pushing bilateral health MOUs with African countries that exchange limited aid for 25 years of pathogen & health data access — raising alarms about extractive terms & data sovereignty.

“No government—regardless of which party is in power—should dictate what private universities can teach, whom they can admit and hire, and which areas of study and inquiry they can pursue.” - President Alan Garber https://t.co/6cQQpcJVTd
The US is giving this virus too many opportunities to acquire mutations to facilitate efficient human to human transmission. There are now different genotypes, multiple types of hosts (including humans), ample opportunity for reassortment, and a huge number of animal infections.
AHBN Commends Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) for creating Office of the Special Assistant on Health Security
Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN) commends the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) for establishing the Office of the Special Assistant on Health Security, a critical step in strengthening Nigeria’s health security including the ONE Health approach which is a multistakeholder response with health, environment and agricultural sectors.
Since COVID-19, the ONSA has remained consistent and has prioritized health security, playing a key role in coordinating security agencies and mechanisms to enhance national preparedness including its role in convening the 2021 National COVID-19 summit hosted by the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19. We also appreciate the inclusion of AHBN in the Linking Public Health Emergency with Security Authorities TWG (LPHSTWG), a technical working group that has been in existence and continues to drive multisectoral collaboration for a stronger health security framework. AHBN looks forward to participating in the TWG through our unique advocacy and accountability role.
During AHBN advocacy visit to the ONSA in October 2024, we emphasized the need for sustained commitment to health security, financing and accountability. With the emergence of the Office of the SA on Health Security at ONSA, we look forward to the office being made permanent which solidifies Nigeria’s efforts in safeguarding public health and making it a national security agenda.

@NewsCentralTV@WALETOM Well said as always Prof Tomori. You say it as it is. We are not resource limited and need to stop going around begging. It is time!
In a global first in Uganda today, @MinofHealthUG, WHO, and other partners launched a first-ever vaccine trial for Ebola from the Sudan species of the virus, and at an unprecedented speed for a randomized vaccine trial in an emergency.
The principal investigators from @Makerere University and the Uganda Virus Research Institute (@UVRIug), with support from WHO and other partners, have worked tirelessly to get the trial ready in 4 days since the outbreak was confirmed on 30 January.
The speed was achieved through advanced research preparedness while ensuring full compliance with national and international regulatory and ethical requirements.
The candidate vaccine was donated by IAVI, with financial support from WHO, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (@CEPIvaccines), Canada’s International Development Research Centre (@IDRC_CRDI), and the European Commission's Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (@EC_HERA) and support from the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (@AfricaCDC).
