@jens_lund@NatMetabolism Thanks! Also makes me a bit worried about all the substrates we use for mitochondrial assays, which are almost all sodium salts 😳

@DenisPBlondin@hubermanlab@joerogan Thanks @DenisPBlondin! What are your thoughts on why adipose thermogenesis has been getting much more focus as a therapeutic target than sk.muscle thermogenesis?
It's winter☃️in the North, which means time to talk about the BENEFITS of the cold!
This year, more than any other, we've heard ppl practicing various forms of cold exposure thanks to @hubermanlab, @joerogan etc.
So here's a shallow dive into the knowns + unknowns of cold 🧵
Registration is now open for our course in August. It is both for Danish PhD student and international students and faculty. Please visit https://t.co/JlhktGPELQ for more information.
The focus will be on mitochondria, weight loss, aging and exercise.
Impressive study with a great message! Wondering if there is an evolutionary explanation behind the findings - people who struggle to lose weight are perhaps "better" adapted to pre-modern lifestyles, hence their superior exercise response 🤔
BIG congratulations to @ChantalPileggi and @meharper_ottawa on this exciting new study, which highlights the variability in the metabolic response to exercise! Women resistant to losing weight on a VLCD were more responsive to a 6wk exercise intervention!

@HannahRBridges1@JNB_lab@injae_chung@MRC_MBU@mcgillu@Yin_zhan Yeah, but those cool old-school papers are not always easily absorbed into my head :-) It just seems to me that millimolar accumulation of a charged compound would collapse the membrane potential - which doesn't seem to be the case (as in table 1 here: https://t.co/TdYW1fvPfl)
Sneak peek of the TOC of our 17 chapter Exercise Metabolism eBook that the publishers just said should be online the first week of July. Hard copy a bit later. Published on behalf of the American Physiological Society by Springer. Thank you so much for all involved!!! 1/2.
Today my office mate Karina Husted defended her PhD thesis on how to use biological age models to motivate healthy lifestyles. Incredible that only 9 simple biomarkers can predict your chronological age with ~70% accuracy! 🤔 @sundaldring @BiomedUCPH
Mitochondrial masterclass by David Nicholls at @cphbat2017#cphbat2022. PS: I will never stop finding it funny that UCP1 was discovered by Gillian HEATon 😆🔥
Today I learned that Sir @StephenORahilly dreamt of playing left-wing for Manchester United, being a singer/songwriter and writing novels. Fortunately, he also picked up an interest in doing excellent science! #augustkroghclub
On Monday next week, @StephenORahilly will visit @NEXSKU at @UCPH_Research in Copenhagen to talk about his outstanding work in understanding obesity. Check https://t.co/usgJjkOvAL for more info.
1/3. Looking like this will still be out in 3 or so weeks. A teaser of some the authors (in no particular order and apologies to those not listed): Stuart Phillips, Bret Goodpaster, Bente Kiens, Mark Hargreaves, P. Darrell Neufer, Karyn Esser, Phil Ainslie, Gary Lopaschuk,…
