Jang Yoon-gi stalked a foreign woman for a year and raped her. He also secretly filmed the body of a high school girl and later kidnapped and murdered another high school girl who was walking down the street. At the time, he was preparing to become a police officer, and his father was also a police officer.

In 2022, Jang Yoon-gi’s father received a commendation from the Minister of the Interior and Safety for his contributions to protecting crime victims. However, he intervened in this case and concealed or hid several key pieces of evidence related to his son’s crimes. During a supplementary investigation by prosecutors, it was revealed that the crime had been committed with the intent to commit sexual assault. Although the victim did not know him, evidence was found suggesting that he had unilaterally targeted her. Initially, the police had this evidence but destroyed it.

Before committing the crime, Jang Yoon-gi told an acquaintance, “If my life falls apart, I will kidnap a high school girl and commit a sexual crime.” After being reported by a foreign woman, he kidnapped and killed a high school girl. As more concealed evidence came to light, Jang Yoon-gi—who had denied any sexual motive for two months—eventually confessed that he had committed the murder with the intent of sexual assault.

The victim’s mother said, “The clothes my daughter was wearing for the last time were discarded without our family’s consent. If even the victim’s belongings are treated this way, how can we be sure that everything revealed so far is the truth? Please uncover who tried to hide what, and why the evidence disappeared.”
