On my lapel I wear a pin depicting a canary in a birdcage, given to me decades ago by a steelworker at a Workers’ Memorial Day rally in Lorain.
At the turn of the last century, coal miners took the canary down into the mines with them to warn them of poisonous gasses, because in those days, they didn’t have a union strong enough or a government that cared enough to look out for them.
When I first came to the Senate, I wore the official Senate pin for a couple of days, but it didn’t feel right. So I took it off and I put my canary pin back on. I’ve worn it every day since, and I’m not taking it off.
I will always believe that when you love this country, you fight for the people who make it work. I will never give up that fight.
Due respect, I’m oh so very tired of being lectured by a socialist whose only electoral purchase is in Vermont.
I’ll be the first to admit that there are problems in the Democratic Party.
But if you’ve had a decade and two failed attempts at convincing even the most nominally sympathetic audience of your arguments, perhaps you, too, are part of the problem and not the solution.
Latest numbers: across the seven battleground states, the '20-'24 swing towards Trump was ~3.1 pts. Across the other 43 states (+DC), it was ~6.7 pts.
Bottom line: the Harris campaign swam impressively against some very strong underlying currents.
I am shocked that this remains a befuddling thing for DC democrats and pundits. For fuck’s sake, in the last two years of the Biden administration, we took away expansions of the child tax credit, Medicaid, and unemployment insurance; we let the Fed raise interest rates on everything from cars, to homes, to credit cards; and then (!) we largely stood by while dominant firms raised the cost of rent, groceries, and everything else. Why would voters think the economy is anything BUT “not so good/poor”?!?
I mean, if you want the Democrats to lose because you have a profound cultural distaste for liberals and want to see them
suffer and be punished, there is a candidate for exactly that.
The horrors unfolding in northern Gaza are the result of a completely unrestrained Netanyahu gov, fully armed by the Biden admin while food aid is blocked and patients are bombed in hospitals.
This is a genocide of Palestinians. The US must stop enabling it. Arms embargo now.
People on twitter will really be like "you believe in voting? that pales in effectiveness to my strategy, doing political organizing at a local level" and then not organize politically at a local level
Will Ferrell deciding to educate himself and others as well as supporting and loving Harper unconditionally when she came out to him really puts some other comedians to shame, huh.
I am hopelessly biased but Barack and Michelle Obama are generational talents and those two speeches nearly tore the roof off the United Center. Hell of a night for the Harris/Walz campaign.
