Set aside whatever should happen to the crazy lady who killed all her kids then tried to kill herself—I have a post on the Kantian imperative if you would like to call for her head in an erudite fashion—the lead-up to said tragedy is my newest fixation. Cf. Luck Number Slevin (2006) (“The Kansas City Shuffle”—“everybody looks right, you go left.” [I may not be a Goodkat, but I am a Bad Poosy, cf. one of those shark-jumping episodes of Game of Thrones.]).

Couple things stick out to me:

(1) If you’re the family of someone who is expressing a desire to harm themselves or others, YOU DO NOT TAKE THEIR WORD THAT THEY ARE COPING. (See the middle image.) This person is no longer to be trusted regarding their own mental state, and the care response must be escalated.

(2) Holy shit that prescription cocktail! (See the first image.) In the future: in medical-criminal catastrophes such as this, all doctors and institutional responders found to be at whatever degree of fault should be required must be punished. As part of their punishment, they must be forced to sample the same cocktail the relevant poor, unfortunate soul was drinking. Cf. H.S. Thompson, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1971) (“The sporting editors had also given me $300 in cash, most of which was already spent on extremely dangerous drugs. The trunk of the car looked like a mobile police narcotics lab. (3) It would be a real shame if the two civil suits settle. (Although I’m betting at least one party will be motivated not to.) I would trade anything to exchange the current circus around the criminal trial for a circus around the civil one.
