@GenelJumalon The tech and energy to train and run these models is centralized, because of cost, and will remain so for the same reason. Sampling could be considered a horizontal 'democratizing' tech, while IA is very vertical, and monopolizing. They cash on renting 'borrowed' pencils.

@GenelJumalon About equating this with 'any tool', a pencil, photoshop... closer similar tech is sampling. Samples were often taken from a few specific records as material to create unique works, these companies rip off millions of images to create style copies and cash in, vertically.

AI services exist that allow you to train a model to generate selfies of yourself, to fill your social media with fully generated digital persona's lifestyle as if 'your own'. Accelerating social media self presentation technologies, towards what feels as a 'natural conclusion'

@LinusEkenstam Then sell their product to the same people. And let's emphasize this is done at a massive scale, with scrappers running amok, and without providing the same 'sampleable' status to their own product, for example Altman accusing Deepseek of 'data theft' or 'data sampling' I guess:)

@LinusEkenstam This misses many points, imo, one of them being the fact that while sampling is kind of horizontal, or down-top, in the sense that 'almost anyone' could and can sample, with AI we are talking about huge actors, with huge investments and benefits that """sample""" everybody else.
