There's a new June demand record in Texas. The ERCOT grid peaked above 82,500 megawatts today; previous record, set in 2023, was a little over 81,000. At the time of peak demand, renewables provided over 50% of supply. #txlege#txenergy
As a result of a US government directive, we are suspending access to Claude Fable 5 for all users. You can continue to use all other Claude models.
Here’s what this means for you:
Across Claude products, new sessions will run on your selected default model or Opus 4.8, and existing Fable 5 sessions will end with an error.
On the Claude Platform, requests to Fable 5 will also return an error. Please update your integrations to other Claude models.
We know this is a disruption to your workflows; we appreciate your patience and support.
The blokes at Stepchange Show have produced an epic history of the US grid, "the largest machine ever built," and it is TRULY GREAT. I think it is THE best single piece on the arc and accidents of history that results in our unique American power system.

Give it a listen and share widely. This will be required listening in all my future Introduction to Electricity courses at Princeton. A+ work Ben Eidelson and Anay Shah. 👏
@MattZeitlin Since 90s: Liga MX economics. Young players are under-developed because other South American pros are available at better value AND Mexican players that are quality can have long, _well-paid_ careers without European move. ARG & BRA can't broadly offer that with domestic leagues.
@DistanceCovered@blayneagard I am sorry this platform can be so strange and angry. I think folks may not even be watching the clip! I enjoy your writing and pod. I value the commitment to rigor - even when I disagree. I am glad when I see you on here!
We're in uncharted territory- if WTI crude holds these gains tomorrow- the current rise of 29.9% or $27.16/bbl would be its largest single day price jump- in both percent and amount- ever. Ever. EVER.
There's a new kind of coding I call "vibe coding", where you fully give in to the vibes, embrace exponentials, and forget that the code even exists. It's possible because the LLMs (e.g. Cursor Composer w Sonnet) are getting too good. Also I just talk to Composer with SuperWhisper so I barely even touch the keyboard. I ask for the dumbest things like "decrease the padding on the sidebar by half" because I'm too lazy to find it. I "Accept All" always, I don't read the diffs anymore. When I get error messages I just copy paste them in with no comment, usually that fixes it. The code grows beyond my usual comprehension, I'd have to really read through it for a while. Sometimes the LLMs can't fix a bug so I just work around it or ask for random changes until it goes away. It's not too bad for throwaway weekend projects, but still quite amusing. I'm building a project or webapp, but it's not really coding - I just see stuff, say stuff, run stuff, and copy paste stuff, and it mostly works.
@SamMcGuire90 Is Calvin Ramsay dead? Did he accidentally run over Slot’s dog? I know he’s not as good as we may wish but if he plays and is terrible no serious supporter or pundit can credibly lash out at the manager given the state of our senior players. I don’t get the rationale for DD.
Our wonderful Prue has decided to step away from judging Bake Off.
From joyful judging to colourful fits to accidental innuendoes, you are simply the best and will be so missed. Please join us in wishing Prue the very best and thanking her for nine brilliant years in the Tent ❤️
🤞 Raffle time!
It's been a while since I've done one of these, so what better time than now, as Christmas approaches.
I started collecting and trading games in the mid-80s. Over the years, that collection has grown. Time to give something back. While giving away retro games always hurts a little, I have multiple copies of the ones shown in the picture (so it hurts a bit less).
I'll pick a winner on 26 December. To enter, simply comment with the game you want and share this post. It doesn't matter if multiple people choose the same game; the winner gets the one they picked.

@SamMcGuire90 442 diamond w/ Macca as 10 doing a truncated version of the playmaking Wirtz will do if he comes on.
On the McGuire criteria of a clear vision platforming the volume shot-takers to take shots, this seems clear. The solidity is the 4 MF & 3 CBs. Issue is width…so Robbo crosses?
@SamMcGuire90 Maybe it’s a “bidding war” signal to rivals so he stays put until summer…our problem at the moment is not that we have one league goal less than Arsenal. It’s the 11 we’ve conceded and our maddening ball progression issues. Tiny marginal gain over Gakpo/Chiesa/Ngumoha for 25-26.
@SamMcGuire90 The rationale for backing Flo now is that it is worth it to drop 10 league points on this year so that we can get something like a 100+ net point boost across the next seven leagues. We’d all take a few ugly misfires while cementing a long-term transition over a MUFC situation!
There is a LOT of opposition to self-driving cars. Our newest poll @TheArgumentMag has 28% in favor, 41% against. And old people, who are the most likely to get into crashes, are 18% in favor, 55% against.
But self-driving cars are much, much safer.

NEW: As part of my effort to track @ElonMusk's influence in the Texas Capitol, I asked for all of his emails with Gov. Greg Abbott for the last several months.
Abbott's office rejected my request, saying some of the records are too "intimate and embarrassing" to release. #txlege
