Shout out to @vickiloujohnson for this activity. So many incredible stories have been shared. The best part? Watching students, teachers, and staff lingering at the board, and learning - mostly through images - these diverse immigration stories of our @connectcharter families.
Part of the grade 7 curriculum is learning about how immigration and migration shaped Canada. My students interviewed family members to hear their family’s immigration story. They were then tasked with creating a mosaic tile to tell their story. I love how they turned out!
Day one with @lyricalpitbull and these kids who think that poetry is “SO boring” were hanging off his every word. One of the biggest cynics even said, “What a fun afternoon!”
Next week these lucky students start their journey of “writing change into the world.” @connectcharter
Book club final projects are trickling in.
Bento boxes, one-pagers, ABC books, and I finally got the chance to try the character body bio. Big thanks to @pernilleripp@StudyAllKnight and @GailStevenson for the inspiration! @connectcharter

Grade 7s @connectcharter took grade 5s on a cross-Canada tour today to learn about historical events and policies that have led to government apologies and compensation.
Children’s books, animations, and even a rap were a few of the mediums used to tell these crucial stories.
Today we visited Beaumont-Hamel. On the first day of the Battle of the Somme in 1916, the NFLD Regiment was devastated. Of the 800 who went into battle that morning, only 68 were able to answer the call the next day.
It is a beautiful and powerful tribute 🇨🇦
