I am so, so proud of my son Wesley Garth’s astrophotography! For years he’s honed his skills, mastering his craft (he’s still only 17 now!). The results speak for themselves. Well done, son, spectacular effort! 🔭 🌌

Artificial intelligences do not undergo experiences, do not possess a body, do not feel joy or pain, do not mature through relationships, and do not know from within what love, work, friendship or responsibility mean. Nor do they have a moral conscience, since they do not judge good and evil, grasp the ultimate meaning of situations, or bear responsibility for consequences. They may imitate or even simulate, but they do not understand what they produce, for they lack the affective, relational, and spiritual perspective through which human beings grow in wisdom. #MagnificaHumanitas
@LauraRbnsn So, being pragmatic, meeting 2 standards seems trivial. You could have an all-white, Master & Commander style cast, & just hire 6 production tech crew (Std B) & a couple of consultants (Std D) to market it to diverse groups (good business anyway). Easy🤷♀️

@sarahsalviander Theist here; I think the “Mercedes Benz” of intellectual atheistic arguments is “God is an incoherent concept”, i.e. unintelligible, not just a matter of improbable existence, but of logical impossibility.
If that’s the case, all pro-God arguments must fail by definition.
@Dr_M_Davis@usairforce This is the question that needs asking. Those numbers are fine for experiment/productionising, but need to be scaled very quickly, with WWII style numbers, leveraging commercial & automotive style manufacturing, for everything but critical items. I worry about propulsion..
I'm not the first to say this but the imperfect pictures from Artemis showing the inside of the vehicle and the imperfections in the windows are some of my favorites
Just makes the whole thing feel so real and raw
When simulation becomes the norm, it weakens the human capacity for discernment. As a result, our social bonds close in upon themselves, forming self-referential circuits that no longer expose us to reality. We thus come to live within bubbles, impermeable to one another. Feeling threatened by anyone who is different, we grow unaccustomed to encounter and dialogue. In this way, polarization, conflict, fear and violence spread. What is at stake is not merely the risk of error, but a transformation in our very relationship with truth.
@Dr_M_Davis Me too, I find it a juvenile post that treats my religion like a cheap political joke. It’s lowbrow ragebait content and the world deserves more from US leadership.
@RepPatHarrigan Do you expect soldiers to uphold the Geneva conventions and IHL? If so, surely that means a process should exist to investigate and prosecute alleged violations in a fair trial. If not, please come out explicitly and state that you reject those laws of armed conflict.
@maksimologija@analyticatheism I must’ve missed the chapter where he argues for a created god, famous for erotic escapades, who was sired by Titans, one of whom castrated his father with a stone sickle.
@Dr_M_Davis@DefenceAust@LockheedMartin 100%. We need to boost production by an order of magnitude and simultaneously add more launcher options, to reduce our dependency on limited HIMARS launchers. Containerised mass produced systems leveraging commercial manufacturing would be a smart start.

Watching Artemis 2 recovery operations:
- the first boat *finds* the capsule
- the second boat goes *around* the capsule
- the third boat taps on the hatch
- the fourth boat is the rescue boat for the other boats
- the fifth boat takes photos of the first boats 1/3
- the sixth boat takes photos of the fifth boat
- the seventh boat extracts the astronauts
- the eighth boat cleans up after the astronauts
- and the ninth boat… well that’s just along for the ride!
