Austin's Triumph Ogbeide will run in the 110-meter hurdles finals at state as he had the 3rd fastest time today. Great comeback for a kid who false started in the same event at state last year. Triumph has a lot of heart!
Every year, I share this video of French caretakers who take sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy, and scrub them into the letters to give them the gold coloring.
They do this for all 9,386 US soldiers who died.
France also gave us this land as American soil. #MemorialDayWeekend
BIG NEWS— I’m officially running for reelection to Austin City Council, Ward 2!
I grew up here, built my career here, and I’m raising my family here. This isn’t just where I work — it’s home. That’s why I’ve spent two terms fighting to make it better: holding the line on taxes, tackling our housing shortage head-on, and pushing to grow our local economy. We’ve made real progress. But there’s more to do — and I want to finish what we started.
If Austin’s future matters to you, I’d be honored to have your support. A donation of any size helps us reach more voters and keep this campaign moving.

Thank you for trusting me to serve Ward 2. Let’s keep building.
Highlights from tonight’s Austin City Council meeting:
- Vision 2045
- Modernizing government
- Major momentum for The Hormel Institute
COMPREHENSIVE PLAN 2045: Tonight we had an extensive discussion on Austin’s Comprehensive Plan 2045 ahead of final approval expected June 1. I truly believe this is one of the most important long-term strategic efforts our community has undertaken in a generation and a major step forward in accelerating Austin’s growth over the next 20 years.
What makes this especially unique is the incredible collaboration behind it. Over the past two years there have been thousands of community interactions, meetings, surveys, workshops, and partnerships involving residents, businesses, nonprofits, Mower County, Impact Austin, and many others. It’s a true community-driven vision for Austin’s future.
The plan focuses on strengthening neighborhoods, expanding housing, improving trails and river access, growing tourism and recreation, supporting arts and culture, and continuing to build Austin’s identity around food, agriculture, innovation, and quality of life.
There are exciting opportunities throughout the plan including stronger Cedar River connections, additional downtown housing and redevelopment, expanded walkability and trail connectivity, enhanced parks and public spaces, and strategies to attract more residents, visitors, and investment.
Most importantly, this plan is about long-term success: growing our population, expanding the tax base, supporting local businesses, attracting investment, and building the type of community where people want to live, work, and raise a family. A stronger tax base helps reduce long-term pressure on individual taxpayers while continuing to improve our community.
Austin has a very bright future ahead and this is another major step toward becoming a truly world-class community.
MODERNIZING CITY SERVICES: Council also approved moving forward with additional CivicPlus automation tools to help modernize and streamline City operations.
For residents, this means simpler and more user-friendly interactions with the City. For employees, it means reducing manual paperwork and repetitive tasks so staff can focus more time serving the public efficiently. Moving toward more digital workflows is an important step forward and helps ensure we are maximizing productivity while being responsible with taxpayer dollars.
THE HORMEL INSTITUTE / MINNESOTA BIOIMAGING CENTER: Huge congratulations to The Hormel Institute on successfully securing bonding bill funding for the Minnesota Bioimaging Center.
This project will be transformational for Austin and the region by helping bring researchers, scientists, and cutting-edge cancer and medical research activity from around the world right here to Austin.
A tremendous amount of credit goes to Senator Gene Dornink, Representative Patricia Mueller, Gail Dennison, Dr. Clarke, and the many people who have worked tirelessly for years to make this vision possible.
As President of the Austin Port Authority, which serves as the fiscal agent for the project, we are proud to support this effort and excited to see it move to the Governor’s desk for final signature.
Just two days into leaving The Athletic to launch my own site for Twins coverage, we've already blown past even my most optimistic long-term subscriber goals.
I'm overwhelmed by the support. Keep it coming and we can make this sustainable for a long time: https://t.co/osUsyR3GwG
My big news: I've left The Athletic because they wanted me to stop covering the Twins.
I refused to give up my dream, so I'm betting on myself and returning to my independent roots.
I need your support to make it work. Join me and let's do this together: https://t.co/osUsyR3GwG
