Do you feel like an impostor and you hold yourself to an unrealistic and unsustainable standard of competence? Do you worry that it’s just a matter of time before you’re “found out?”
There is a Nigerian flag flying at a research station in Antarctica.
There is a Nigerian who has climbed Everest and one who has crossed the Sahara on a motorbike. There is a Nigerian in the Formula 1 support pipeline. There is a Nigerian who has published in Nature five times before 40.
None of these people made major national news at home.
There is no shortage of Nigerian firsts. There is a shortage of Nigerian storytelling infrastructure that treats them as firsts.
Fix the second gap and the first list becomes obvious the next time somebody in a bar tells you 'nothing works in Nigeria.'
50 - Tottenham Hotspur have lost 50 of their 141 Premier League games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as many defeats as Arsenal have suffered in 382 top-flight matches at the Emirates Stadium.
Gap.
16 - The three youngest players to score in the League Cup for a Premier League side all did so for Arsenal:
16y 212d - Cesc Fàbregas (vs Wolves, 2003)
16y 258d - Max Dowman (vs Ipswich, 2026)
16y 266d - Jack Wilshere (vs Sheffield United, 2008)
Production.
My thoughts:
💬We're water, able to take the shape of whatever container you put us in. However you wanna play, we will match you. If you wanna play a game of football, we'll do that. If you wanna play a game of fights, we will do that as well.
💬Gabriel and Konsa, I applaud you. What a phenomenal defensive performance (Gabriel especially). I didn't think that was a penalty against Konsa and the football gods agreed. But man... Gabriel has taken his defending and leadership to another level in Saliba's absence.
💬Odegaard, wow. 5 chances created, but his creativity is expected. What isn't expected is the fact that he won 5/6 duels. In all games this season, Odegaard is winning 4.47 ground duels per 90 on 72.7% ground duel accuracy. A man at the peak of his powers.
💬That's what Bruno G brings that MLS cannot. Final third magic. I love MLS, but Bruno G can affect all phase of play, in all gamestates. Additionally, we've normalised Rice's greatness. I see him do a crazy pinpoint cross to Saka, then chase a winger down the other side and don't bat an eye. Seeing Arteta have the assurance to take him off even with the score 1-0 made me so happy.
💬Brobbey, what is your diet? What do you eat, big man!! And Ballard, you're insane, absolutely insane. Kudos to Sunderland, what a difficult game away from home. The EPL is Hell. You can't rest like Barca, Madrid, Bayern, or PSG fans do. This shit is crazy, every club is mad.
💬Havertz needs more rest. This was how we burnt him out last time he got injured. He was running on fumes for the last 25 minutes of that game.
💬Last but definitely not least, David Raya is the best goalkeeper in the world, the best goalkeeper in the history of The Arsenal, and might end up as the best goalkeeper in the history of the EPL by the time he retires.
Unto the next. COYG!!!!

Havertz remains the most misunderstood forward in world football.
Havertz suffers from a false dichotomy … people reduce him to whether he delivers big moments, ignoring that he consistently performs in big occasions, and that misunderstanding is what leads to him being underrated but also incorrectly utilised.
If you’re building a game plan where he is the ‘killer’ then you’re misguided as he is never ever going to be a reliable finisher but that doesn’t mean he can’t score.
What he does give is world class link up play and pressing from the front and in the context of a cohesive unit where goals come from elsewhere ie imagine if he had a Mane and Salah either side of him, he wouldn’t be dunked down upon as he is now.
I think Arsenal biggest issue is seeing him as the problem when the recruitment to supplement him has been flawed. Where is the 20-30 goal a season winger to get in behind and be the goalscorer?
This is the equivalent of Liverpool putting a Firmino up front and expecting him to yield goals like Haaland despite his overall performance being good.
Sharp movement to move onside for the 1st goal. Dummy for the 2nd goal after realising Odegaard’s run would give him a chance. Kai Havertz is a high IQ player - he allows the other Arsenal attackers to play better AND he chips in with goals. Top striker.
I find myself being more care free with Arsenal now that they have won the title.
You can see that in their game, too, but in a good way.
It’s an advantage right now because they are playing with the swagger and arrogance of champions, and rightly so.
But they have to stay humble, determined, disciplined, and totally attentive to every moment because the standards are so high that with even a 5% drop off they will be punished in the uber-competitive Premier League.
Ultimately, it becomes important that they don’t let that attitude creep into their work throughout the course of the season.
It has happened to many title-winning teams of the past.
So far, it certainly hasn't. Only one freak goal conceded all season (minimal xG on that Rogers goal).
With Mikel Arteta in charge, he is the LAST man in the world to let the standards drop. You can be sure of that.
It only bodes well for the future, but it is something that the club must be aware of.
One hugely beneficial and preventative factor here is the signing of guys like Konsa and Guimarães. They are leaders who will be determined to win themselves, but they will also push guys like Saliba and Lewis-Skelly to new levels to keep their place in the team. Tzolis too.
That's part of what makes Arsenal so good. Two top players in every position.
That, combined with the culture that Mikel Arteta has created, and the hunger to win a Champions League, will almost certainly see Arsenal sustain their RELENTLESS intensity across the course of the campaign.
Kinda crazy that this was all so clear from the minute I saw a Mikel Arteta team play in December 2019, and here we are.
Arsenal. The standard. The team who toppled Pep Guardiola and Manchester City.
With Mikel Arteta at the helm.
Mental, but it's the reality.
Here is to more and more and more… 🏆
