unpopular opinion: The decrease is because the social contagion isn't as cool as it one was. That's not to suggest that a small percentage of the population have experienced a genuine and deep-seated gender dysphoria, which obviously requires serious, compassionate psychological care.

But the research shows us undeniably that for nearly a decade, schools, corporate HR departments, and social media algorithms hyper-incentivized gender non-conformity as the ultimate badge of cultural status. That novelty is wearing off and the medical community is now forced to reckon with the irreversible physical damage done to thousands of teenagers, AKA: the trend is losing its social currency.

That the artificial boom was sustained by social hype, and for some, the popularity/being "untouchable" by your tormentors as a result of the cancel culture enforced by the advocates and activists... not a permanent reality.
