@AGI_HeavenHell @fchollet I was on the anti-doomer side for many years. I'm now marginally on the doomer side. What convinced me was seeing how seemingly dumb "next token" models like GPT-4 could accurately and precisely use tools or write code. My doomer fear is bad human actors using this stuff badly.

@jowyang Yeah, and it does a ridiculous number of human-writing-oriented tasks at a super-human level. Humans routinely judge other humans simply by the quality of their writing (Socrates didn't even write any texts!), at this point we should just say intelligence = "is human".

@jowyang I'd rephrase it as fear of creating something that challenges our notions of superiority. There are thousands of arbitrary measures by which humans are inferior to other beings - we just choose not to value those. AI creates a threat reaction because it speaks human.

@mreflow There are a bunch of newly unemployed voiceover actors and translators who already disagree with you on this... there is a seismic shift happening, and some of it (like every past transition) will include jobs shifting. That alone isn't a bad thing, but it will be for some.

Honestly it's the most terrified I've ever been writing code, the next year will be insane.
