Trump’s Big Ugly Bill will cut 17 million people off of their health care and decimate the food budgets of regular, working people. Today I joined with @RepPressley, @ProjectBread & other leaders to hear directly from our neighbors about how these cuts will make their lives more difficult and families less economically secure.
THANK YOU to the amazing people from MA-02 and MA-07 who shared their stories.
The House is preparing to vote on the largest cuts to federal nutrition programs in U.S. history. The "Big Beautiful Bill" is in direct opposition to the idea that the Trump administration wants to make America healthy again. https://t.co/UoL6oDvyR8 #MAHA#mapoli
If a bill is so bad that you have to exempt entire states from its consequences to win the votes you need—just don't pass the bill!
Why do people in Washington state deserve Medicaid & SNAP cuts, but others don't?
This is plain wrong, and it's just no way to legislate.
“When it comes to low-income families, there is always this argument they should have to work harder to demonstrate their worthiness.”
My colleague Jen Wagner in NYT piece on how Republican bill takes health cvg & SNAP away by tangling folks in red tape. https://t.co/qqXK7l8xVO
“A 10 percent cut to SNAP is financially the equivalent of wiping out every food bank in the U.S.” - Houston Food Bank
SNAP cuts will leave those already facing food insecurity with nowhere to turn. https://t.co/ieCLtx24qG
Senate Republicans are rushing to pass a bill that would take #SNAP food assistance away entirely from millions of low-income people & cut food benefits for millions more. Some states could even end SNAP entirely. But Senators still have time to reject these harmful policies.
Senate R leaders have revised their plan to cut #SNAP. The details are slightly different, but the bottom line is the same: this would still take food assistance away from millions of low-income people, raise families’ grocery costs & risk some states ending SNAP altogether.
🚨 Trump’s speech tomorrow won’t mention this → he wants to slash food assistance for hungry families while handing billionaires another tax break.
Watch my remarks on the state of hunger in America.
MassHealth is an essential partner to federal nutrition programs and a critical tool for addressing food insecurity systemically. It provides enrollees nutrition education, screening and referral to SNAP, food assistance models, and food infrastructure/community investment.
It is not a good idea at all! This proposal would reduce SNAP benefits for every SNAP participant—more than 40 million people—who currently get only $6.20 per person per day, on average.
NEW: Multiple state agencies report having difficulty accessing funding portals for emergency aid, community health centers, Medicaid and more in the wake of OMB memo ordering grant 'pause.'
“This is sowing chaos and confusion everywhere,” one state official told ABC News.
The answer is yes. My office has heard from Community Health Centers across Massachusetts that are unable to access their Payment Management System at HHS. This is how they get paid by the federal government.
That's 2 million people in MA whose health insurance is at risk.
Thank you to the Healey Administration for supporting #SchoolMealsForAll Massachusetts children in the FY26 budget! We look forward to engaging throughout the budget process to ensure full funding for this critical anti-hunger program. #FeedKidsMA#MakeHungerHistoryMA#MApoli
The policies on this list would cut overall spending on SNAP benefits by ~30%, largely by slashing benefits for all 40+ million participants—the majority of whom are kids, seniors, and people with disabilities.
Currently, SNAP benefits average only $6.20 per person per day.
We’ve rounded up our top 6 anti-hunger victories during the 2023-2024 session! Thanks to our donors, partners, and advocates, we’ve made significant strides in ensuring that every Massachusetts resident can access and afford nutritious food with dignity.

I signed legislation to give every kid in Massachusetts free breakfast and lunch. Since then, we’ve served 300 million meals.
No child should go to school hungry.
It is deeply shameful that some lawmakers, just before the holidays, have decided that people –who are victims of a crime, including children and seniors, should no longer have their stolen #SNAP benefits restored. https://t.co/TNWVrKPc3z
The House GOP's latest farm bill extension fails to extend a key #SNAP provision: protections for low-income families whose food benefits are stolen through no fault of their own. That's a ~$1.5B cut to SNAP over the next decade, based on @USCBO estimates.
