@Bertrand_SK If drivers can't behave themselves and not threaten people's lives, we should definitely create vehicle-free zones and and lower speed limits in larger areas around schools. Kids should be able to bike and walk safely to and from school, not be threatened by drivers just because.
@Bertrand_SK Our bylaws only restrict pedestrian movement when within 1 block of a traffic signal and on Circle Dr. Even the section cited from the act notes "Nothing in this section relieves the driver of a vehicle from the duty to exercise due care for the safety of pedestrians."
Saturday, I took a man in his mid-60's on an ebike test ride.
At the end of the ride he says, "I've been complaining about bike lanes for years. I guess I'll have to go home and eat my words to my wife, because this thing is incredible."
#ebike rides are persuasive advocacy

@hinz_tamara They couldn't even provide people with real masks when they did require them, and now they're going to drop them as the levels of the most contagious virus we know of are increasing, vaccine immunity is waning, and there are no other protections. Just...awesome.
@yqraction That really sucks. The farmers' market in the plaza felt like the beginning of a more community-focused downtown. This is just one more blow to downtown.
Politician wants residents who travel by transit/foot to sacrifice their time, comfort, health, safety and lives* so that suburban drivers can conveniently pilot and store 3-ton motorized living rooms through America’s most walkable city.
*55% of NYC road deaths are pedestrians.

WATCH: The most amazing thing about this remarkable car commercial, is that it didn’t seem to realize, or didn’t care, how effectively it made the point that cars are a HUGE waste of space in cities. Award-winning 2002 ad for Saturn cars. HT @javiermalagon
@Zack_MacGregor I wonder what the rules would be around creating a bike-mounted lemonade stand and riding it around Meewasin throughout the summer. If it's possible (legally and with your bike), it would mean that you wouldn't be asking people for money; you'd be letting them pay for lemonade.
@PaulDechene And that is treated like a normal vehicle and purchasers would be eligible for an EV rebate, but silent, human-scaled e-bikes and e-cargo bikes are treated as threatening by municipalities and not eligible for federal rebates. Cool and normal!
