Today, thanks to God there is finally a truce between Israel and Palestine, and some hostages have been freed. Let’s #PrayTogether that they will all be freed as soon as possible, more humanitarian aid will enter Gaza, and dialogue is insisted upon: it is the only path to peace.
An important lesson all teens/young adults should learn is that even with a job you love and are super passionate about
You will not love every second of it and you will have stretches of time where you dont enjoy it
The teen I homeschool has been working full time all summer long at a bike shop
Bikes, specifically the mechanical aspect, are his passion - hes obsessed
Prior to him working full time, I used to tell him that he was going to have days and periods of time where he doesn't feel like working and where he doesn't enjoy the job
He would always tell me no and that since hes super passionate about it hes going to love every second of every day
Id always laugh and tell him to just wait until you start working full time - your opinion will change
Lo and behold...
Yesterday when we were on the phone he started laughing out of nowhere
I asked him whats so funny and he whispered
"You were right"
I immediately knew what he was talking about but I played dumb and asked him what he meant
He eventually spit it out and told me that going to work feels like a chore and hes not enjoying it
He even said hes looking forward to starting school again
I didnt rub it in his face and tell him I told you so (although a small part of me wanted to)
I asked him why he wasnt enjoying working and if working fulltime ruined his passion for him
He said no BUT he could easily see him coming to not enjoy his passion
IF he didn't make time outside of work to revel in why he loves his passion in the first place
I couldnt have asked for a better realization for him
I told him that even though teaching is my passion and I love it
I have days and even weeks where its not amazing
He said it was a much needed realization for him because it gave him clarity and perspective on what "adult" life was like
And what his career choices should be
Working fulltime brings about many important realizations, this being one of them
I think its great to strive to have a job where we love it and are passionate about it
But its also important to show/teach the youth that not everyday is going to be sunshine and rainbows
And thats okay!
We can have bad days or stretches of time and still love our job overall
Partnership is not placation.
Sayings like:
"happy wife, happy life"
"the wife is always right"
"just keep the peace"
....are repression.
Eventually there will be resentment and acting out.
Conflict is natural. No one is always right. Partnership is the maturity to face issues head on as two equal adults.
Finally finished the deep clean of my house. 😊 #satisfying#projectcompleted
Of course, I can't rest on my laurels because the house insists on getting dirty again, bathrooms especially! 😆
Just hired a 21yo for their first job. What basic professional advice do they need? Here's what I tell all my new staff, but perhaps you can add. I'll start small.
1/ Use an online calendar. Have a foolproof system of reminders, so you never forget a deadline or obligation.
And we have hit July. The month where I still have work and a long list of things to do, but I don't want to do a blessed thing other than sit in my hammock and read. #burnout#summer 🫠
Extreme jealousy and possessiveness are not displays of love.
They’re displays of insecurity. Extreme emotional responses are not displays of love. They’re displays of dysregulation.
Authentic love is steady, rational, and able to experience discomfort.
None of us know what we’re doing. We’re all children in adult bodies at times. We’re all making things up as we go along. We’ve all made mistakes and have regrets. We all want the best for the people we love. We’re so much more alike than we are different.
20 lessons you should be teaching your kid (that school isn't):
1. Failure isn't bad. It's one of your greatest teachers.
2. Asking "why" is your greatest weapon.
3. Just because someone's an "expert" doesn't mean they're right.
“In one of the most notable moments in sports history, Kenyan runner Abel Mutai was just a few feet from the finish line, but became confused with the signage and stopped thinking he had completed the race.
A Spanish athlete, Ivan Fernandez, was right behind him, and after realizing what was happening, he started shouting at the Kenyan for him to continue running; but Mutai didn't understand his Spanish.
Fernandez eventually caught up to him and instead of passing him, he pushed him to victory.
A journalist asked Ivan, "Why did you do that?"
Ivan replied, “My dream is that someday we can have a kind of community life where we push and help each other to win.” The journalist insisted “But why did you let the Kenyan win?" Ivan replied, "I didn't let him win, he was going to win.” The journalist insisted again, “But you could have won!”Ivan looked at him & replied, “But what would be the merit of my victory? What would be the honor of that medal?
What would my Mom think of that?”
Values are transmitted from generation to generation.
What values are we teaching our children?
Let us not teach our kids the wrong ways to WIN.”
