There can be no normal childhood in an abnormal society!
Tibetan children face all the challenges of life under occupation & in many cases r full participants in the struggle to resist it. That means they are also victims of the systematic & ever-present abuse of HRs in Tibet.
At least 78% of Tibetan students between the ages of 6-18 have been forced into the residential school system.
Devastating psychological harm is being inflicted on a generation of Tibetan children & parents, including total alienation of Tibetans frm their culture & traditions.
China has been orchestrating a crackdown on Tibetan schools, closing and demolishing those that are seen as a threat to the CCP narrative and which prioritise Tibetan language teaching. As a result, thousands of children have been left with no choice but to attend boarding schools away from their families and communities.
Before fleeing Tibet in 2020, Tibetan educator Dr Gyal Lo visited over 50 colonial boarding schools. Now, he has become an outspoken voice in pushing to have these schools investigated by independent actors, for what he describes as their “outright cruelty”.@jltib88

“These boarding pre-schools erase the fundamental mindset of Tibetan children from the age of four and replace it with a new Chinese mindset,” Dr Gyal Lo, Tibetan sociologist and Tibet Action's Tibet Specialist

China's colonial boarding school system in #Tibet is designed to eradicate Tibetan identity, culture, and language. By forcibly separating approximately 1 million Tibetan children from their families and placing them in state-run boarding schools, the Chinese government aims to assimilate them into Han Chinese culture.
In these institutions, the use of the #Tibetanlanguage is suppressed, and the curriculum is taught primarily in Mandarin, undermining Tibetan cultural heritage.
This policy violates multiple international human rights treaties, including those to which #China is a party, as well as China's own domestic laws.
We urge #UN High Commissioner #VolkerTürk to investigate these abuses against Tibetan children.

Hundreds of thousands of Tibetan children are being separated from their families and placed in boarding schools by the Chinese govt.
Far from home, the Tibetan children are at risk of abuse, and of being stripped of their Tibetan identity and bonds with family.

“Now they want to call it Xizang to show even more strongly that Tibet belongs to China. The push to use Xizang is a huge signal from China’s side to show that Tibet is fully under their control.” - Dr Gyal Lo @jltib88

As Phuntsok Norbu, chairman of the Tibetan Community in Britain, explains, the Silk Roads exhibition at @britishmuseum exemplifies “the museum’s role in shaping global understanding of a culture that is actively being suppressed.”
