@EconBreau@hiko_ryu So I encourage you to be charitable & remember that when someone talks about a “strong man,” it may just be a beaten-down spirit unaware of alternatives, or even afraid to imagine that a world w/o politicians could be freer.
@EconBreau@hiko_ryu Statist politicians, regardless of country, have done a good job hiding the history of mutual-aid networks that helped the poor access medicine, outlawing alternative curricula that could educate kids cheaply, & ignoring how decentralized free banking can work w/o a central bank.
@langs_io@nderi_j Also, govt building houses isn't charity. It's like snatching a wallet, taking money from it, returning some, & giving it to a homeless person, claiming “he was helped, so it was worth it.” It also ignores unseen effects: jobs, higher salaries, etc. lost b/c it was taken.
@langs_io@nderi_j Yeah, with inflation & taxes, even reaching 90%+. Before WWI, the US became a developed nation with a stable currency, no income tax, almost zero regulation, etc. Those policies are far better for low- & middle-income households than govt building houses.
@langs_io@nderi_j The bigger Q is: Why can't the state step out of the way by killing taxes, regulations, inflation, & similar statist policies, & let private developers build many starter homes? That's what built the American middle class.
@TD_B89@MikeWingerii 4. Given your sympathies for other lifestyles, Mr. Barret, I don't see what's preventing multiple wives from also showing beautiful fruit. Some groups can certainly show that beauty. So again, it's only obvious if you're Catholic or Christian.
@TD_B89@MikeWingerii 3. Whether armies killing civilians is debated in modern philosophy (see atheist Jeff McMahan & Bertrand Russell). It's only obvious if you're Catholic. Protestants & others debate whether limited forms can be permitted in limited difficult scenarios.
@JamesNjugu4zx1@EconBreau@witheredsummer You're right. N. Americans & W. Europeans are somewhat lucky to have the capital to fund their welfare/warfare state.
Still, the consequences are negative. Aside from Switzerland & many European microstates, W. Europe is poorer than the poorest U.S. state, Mississippi.
@WriterJohnBuck@BaxterWilliams_ Mr. Buck, I just want to say that I love your work (hey, that rhymes). Keep it up! I wish you had a regular blog or YT channel that I could follow.
@JamesNjugu4zx1@EconBreau@witheredsummer It also exists to some extent in the Western world, with slower economies due to high taxes, unstable currencies, high regulation, etc. Europe isn't doing well.

@JamesNjugu4zx1@EconBreau@witheredsummer It would also mean the end of the political class parasiting off the productive economy, so no politician anywhere wants to give up an easy grift.
@sjggraham@RandalRauser@DaricJT@emuse1955@MatthewHartke@InspiringPhilos If you're a Christian, maybe just declare Marcion right rather than giving incoherent arguments for why the OT should remain in the canon. Either say Marcion was right & throw out the OT, or reject the NT passages identifying Jesus with the same God who judged cities.
