Her grandfather was respected physicist and mathematician Max Born, and much of his acclaim came after he fled the Nazis during the rise of Adolf Hitler. Though he doesn't have the name recognition today that his famous granddaughter has, he was celebrated during his lifetime for his work in the development of quantum mechanics and even won the 1954 Nobel Prize in Physics.

Elsewhere in Don't Stop Believin', Newton-John wrote that her grandfather was close friends with Albert Einstein. While her mother was a young girl, Newton-John said Einstein "spent many evenings in her family house playing violin while my grandfather played piano."

In light of the progress in mathematics, we at Edison Scientific and FutureHouse have assembled a set of Millennium Problems for Biology. They are chosen to be very hard to solve but very easy to validate in a simple laboratory environment. Any of these, if solved, would mark a major advance in biotechnology, and most of them would contribute materially towards curing disease. These are, in some sense, the “last reasonable eval” for AI in biology. This was work primarily by @MichaelaThinks and myself, with contributions from many others.

BOMBSHELL: Motaz Azaiza admits he filmed Israeli hostages being beaten in the streets of Gaza on October 7, and deliberately never published it, to protect the identities of the people beating them.

He did post other October 7 footage that day, celebrating the attack. He quietly deleted it later.

Azaiza is an influential "photojournalist" from Ghazza. TIME named him to the TIME 100. He was nominated for the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize. CNN, the Guardian and Sky all interviewed him.

Ms. Rachel Griffin-Accurso, who has 16 million subscribers, made a video for preschoolers introducing "my friend Motaz." She deleted it later.

Two weeks ago, he did a 3 hour and 38 minute interview in Arabic.

Most people are wrong here. It IS actually possible to communicate between two airgapped computers with temperature changes, but the data transfer rate is too slow (1-8b/hr) to be effective.

The underlying point Noam makes is true though: there are a deluge of crazy airgapped comms techniques like EM emanations from DRAM clocks that get a lot faster (300kbps).

This isn’t sci-fi. We vastly underestimate what AI can do with perfect knowledge of all of this literature.
