Some things are so common in certain circles, that asking for specifics seems a bit weak.
In case you hadn't noticed, Norway primarily consists of mountains, and not a lot of farmland, so when the population grew they had to move in order not to starve to death, hence the migration.
I would also like to point out that this is Norwegian history, and I think we, in general, know more about this than you do.
