My article on rethinking the human-plant relationship is out in @ilTascabile🌱
I also discuss the book Etre un chêne by L. Tillon.🌳 I believe the philosophical understanding of plants has some bearings on our relationship with nature #vegscilif#envhist#environment
An extraordinary furnace, I have never seen one with outer containers for alembics. The recievers are on top of the furnace too, which is unusual. We are only scratching the surface of pictures from alchemical MS.
I finally received my book on plant studies in early modern natural philosophy and science, with a special focus on the mechanical investigation of vegetation. It comprises chapters on metaphysics, garden philosophy, physics, anatomy and physiology (and philosophers' herbaria)🌱
The next online seminar will be given by Professor Annette Lykknes (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) and Dr Brigitte Van Tiggelen (@SciHistoryOrg) on "Discovering elements in the age of radioactivity"
As the @SHACorg Spring meeting approaches, please enjoy the most recent AMBIX edited collection, "Knowledge in the Making: Notebooks as Historical Sources" https://t.co/nARoQD8sKM
Hi everyone, if you can be in Oxford on 28 / 29 May, please register for the SHAC spring meeting on the history of alchemy! The meeting is 1 day and a half and I dare say the lineup is great! Keynote by Jennifer Rampling on 'Alchemical Monsters'. What not to love? 😃
For hybrid attendance no registration is required. But if you are not on the SHAC mailing list or connected to its FB you will need to get in touch with me a week before the event so I can give you the Zoom link.
Hi all, I had some questions asked and want to clarify two things: if you are an accepted speaker you should NOT register (if you did let me know so we can release the spot back), and if you are not sure whether you can come in person do NOT register either! 1/3
