Diplomatic Checkmate Against the Kigali Regime. (Full video of Michael Waltz's intervention).

Very harsh statements from the United States Ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz, against the Kigali regime, during the emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

In his speech, he firmly condemns Rwanda for its direct support to the M23, explicitly states that Rwandan troops (Rwandan Defence Forces, RDF) are deployed alongside the M23 rebels in eastern Congo (notably in Uvira, South Kivu), and describes this as deliberate sabotage of the peace agreements recently signed in Washington.

He mentions recent field evidence, including the use of surface-to-air missiles by Rwandan forces and strategic involvement in planning offensives.

Waltz states that the United States will use “all tools at its disposal” to hold Rwanda accountable and demands an immediate withdrawal of Rwandan troops from Congolese territory.

Some excerpts:

“Since its re-emergence in 2021, Rwanda has had strategic control of its proxy armed group M23 as well as the political wing of M23, the Congo River Alliance or AFC, and has deployed M23 and the AFC to achieve Rwanda's geopolitical objectives.”

“In eastern DRC, Kigali has been intimately involved in the planning and execution of the war in eastern DRC, providing military and political direction to M23 forces and the AFC.”

“For years, the Rwandan Defence Forces have provided materiel, logistical support, and training to M23 as well as participation in combat alongside M23 in DRC with approximately 5,000 to 7,000 soldiers as of early December.”

“Not counting possible Rwandan military reinforcements in this most recent advance.”

“We have credible reports of increased use of suicide drones.”

“Increased use of artillery by M23 and Rwanda”

“including strikes in Burundi.”

“We will use the tools at our disposal to hold peace saboteurs accountable.”

“We call on Rwanda to respect its commitments and to further recognize the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo's right to defend its territory and its sovereign right to invite Burundian forces onto its territory.”

“The fact that UN peacekeepers are besieged by forces supported by a Member State that itself contributes troops to peacekeeping missions is, frankly, a sad hypocrisy...”

If you want to judge @PaulKagame, just look at his track record.

He ended a genocide.

He chose reconciliation instead of revenge.

He reunited a deeply wounded and hurt society, reconciled the nation, and gave Rwandans their dignity and sense of belonging back.

He rebuilt his country from the ashes, creating one of the safest, cleanest and least corrupt countries in Africa.

Free basic education and on track to reach universal health coverage for all his citizens. With economic growth continuously near double digit.

There are some failed states in Africa - and there is #Rwanda. Night and Day.
