@EmilyOstermeyer Love the focus on sustainable change! A very important priority in higher ed, especially in humanities disciplines like arts and music
Wk 6, Prompt 3
Why lead online? To fish where the fish are! Students, information, and ideas are developing digitally. I want to be present there so I can interact with others and grow myself. #EDH5309
Wk 6, Prompt 2
Thank you to @AdamGismondi and @lauraosteen for teaching me about student activism in the digital age and the "5 R's", esp the Recognition that what happens online is a reflection of real life. When students speak online, we should pay attention #EDH5309
While I may not incorporate social media into everything I do this year, I'll certainly take the positive attitude I've seen from the panelists and my classmates towards problems and issues that arise.
Wk 6 prompt 1:
Something that resonated with me across all the panels was this idea that we are always growing and moving forward. Whether this is questioning the return to "normal" post-covid, finding opportunities in online instruction, or #EDH5309
realizing the power of social media, I've been inspired by the positivity expressed by the panelists and their desire to make their spaces better for others (whether that's students, consumers, co-workers--whomever).
@rodkelley@ItsDrMordecai This is an interesting question! I'm wondering what pedagogical impact this consolidation would have--are there academic programs that would be lost in the wash? Would learning services from an individual institution be maintained with the consolidation?
@cjanelacosta@JoeSabado Yes!! This is why I wish faculty would better monitor how much graduate students are working, particularly those with direct instructional control. My students could always tell when I was stressed/overworked, despite how well I planned..
Wk 5 Prompt 2:
@TJLogan I really like your distinction between "change" and "transition". I've noticed that the emotional aspect of transition can keep people from capitalizing on the opportunities change brings (such as the switch to online learning) #EDH5309
Wk 5 Prompt 1: I've learned from #MIndfulness that sometimes a deep breath and some internal awareness will do wonders for my attitude and the quality of my work for the day. Everyday is a journey, and this keeps me grounded. #EDH5309
@Hatcher_Kris @DavidThomasee Agreed- I think any discussion of social media use in higher ed should consider policies and/or guidelines for faculty, staff, and students. #EDH5309
@rodkelley Yes- I especially like how your post emphasizes teamwork and collaboration! I feel that too often we may not work with others because of pressure for individual success in a career, publishing, etc. #EDH5309
@ColquhounJacob @TylerAThomas I think this is a great sentiment for me as well, especially in academia. There always seems to be pressure to know everything and therefore less willingness to admit you don't know something and work with others #EDH5309
AFQ: Advertise this class! I don't think anyone in my dept has this class on their radar, and it's been a great experience learning to use #twitter and getting set up on #linkedin#EDH5309
