I died in June 1838 in circumstances that remain unclear. It's said that the oral tradition suggests that I was killed by whites who did not want me educating blacks. Local legend says that I was beaten to death in my home. God will take care of me, I'll miss you. 👼💖

In 1808, I opened a school in my home, where I taught both white and black children. ✊🏻✊🏿

Then I went to Raleigh, where I was licensed to preach the Christian Gospel by the #OrangePresbytery

Then, between 1801 and 1807, I served as a circuit riding #missionary for the general assembly of the #PresbyterianChurch to slaves and free blacks in the states of Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina. I also converted whites.

In 1800, I completed with high honors a rigorous theological examination that began in Virginia. I was also granted a license to preach by the #Presbytery of Lexington, Virginia.
