A "famous" #Ruby consulting shop left us with a bunch of flaky tests full of race conditions and other delights.
But hey, at least they also run a famous Ruby blog with some tips on fixing these kinds of things.
@AskAtlassian Sure, @AskAtlassian, I'll Google it for you. Here is some more information on the well-known UI design antipattern that has been known as "mystery meat navigation" since 1998 (21 years ago!)

Let me know if there's anything else I can Google for you!
#Jira has the worst modern GUI I've seen from a major software project in a long time.
It's roughly 50% "mystery meat" navigation right out of the 90s. Some of it is even "invisible mystery meat" where the widgets are *invisible* until you mouse over them. Unreal, @Jira
@boop@carolinesinders@anildash@natalierachel I'm this way with nearly all communication now. Nobody ever calls/slacks/emails to say "good job" or "good news" or "how ya doing"
99% of the time, they're unhappy or need something. Just imagining the slack notification sound is a bit stressful.
Paired with a bright young dev (working through her first boot camp) tonight at a #PhillyRb meetup. Kept apologizing for things she didn't know!
If there's anything she took away from tonight hopefully it's how "veterans" like me are still Googling our way thru our days...
@anildash@manuelmaly@kylealden@philswenson@gruber I love Electron apps on MacOS because every one I've used respects <cmd+> and <cmd-> to resize the fonts and the GUI. I do a lot of remote pairing and switching between hi-DPI and low-DPI monitors.
The shortcomings of Electron and other non-native apps are significant but w/e
My calendar inadvertently looks like I'm headed to a swinger party, thanks to @phillyrb.

Great list of all the small, helpful changes coming to Rails 6.
More testable Action Cable, Action Mailbox, create_or_find_by, and lots of other features and quality-of-life improvements.

We as an industry strive to make CPUs faster, bandwidth wider, and rendering engines more efficient -- but all that extra horsepower is swallowed up by garbage like this
#Microsoft's peripherals are usually top-notch, so it was pretty puzzling when my otherwise-excellent Microsoft Universal Mobile Keyboard stopped working after a year and I found out that they have something close to a 100% failure rate.
My whiny, entitled user request of the day: wwwwwwwwhhhhhhhhhhy can't #Jira support Github-flavored Markdown like 98% of everything else I caaaaarrrre about
Why are 2.5" 4TB solid-state drives so expensive?
I understand why 4TB m.2 and NVMe drives are expensive, because they have to use higher-density chips, but it seems like a 2.5" 4TB SSD could just use the cheap low-density chips.
@k0kubun writes about the present and future state of JIT in Ruby 2.6, and how it relates to real-world applications like #rubyonrails

I think he's done great work and I'm excited about seeing improvements for Rails in 2.7 next year. Thanks k0kubun!
Most of humanity's great achievements (spaceflight, the polio vaccine, semiconductors, whatever) were the result of people who brought problems to "management" and were able to secure the resources to solve them.
TIP: Want to run your company's engineering culture into the ground?
Easy! Adopt "bring me solutions, not problems" as a mantra.
....and then deny your engineers the time and resources needed to develop those solutions.
