@_ChanFace@sryimcrazy In the ‘90’s I was hired as an extra for a TV commercial for now-defunct Canadian Airlines. The walkway was dressed up as an airport. We extras went back and forth, all night long while the subway was closed, until the director got the perfect shot.
@AdrianMorrow I led Metrolinx’s 1st business case for Eglinton. The top performing option was an elevated driverless metro- light modelled after the JFK Air Train with a fast 1-seat ride from SCC to Pearson. But Toronto politics won the day, setting the course for today’s glorified streetcar.
@spaikin Memories of Jim as a kind soul who was known to fall asleep in the middle of policy briefings during his stint as McGuinty’s Minister of Transportation.
@ThomasWatsonCD@BlackpudlianCan What a dramatic painting! My dad served on HMCS Bittersweet (K182) and HMCS Baddeck (K147) during the Battle of the Atlantic.
@StephenWickens1 I was a little boy when my parents emigrated to Canada on the Chicago-Toronto overnight train. Called the International Ltd, it was operated by Grand Trunk Western. My first memory of Canada was admiring the stainless steel GO trains from our sleeping compartment window.
@WBMetro62 MX inherited the project and hired the great Tyler Brûlé (Porter Airlines racoon fame) to create the UPX brand, colour palette, train and station interior designs (at Union and Pearson).
@WBMetro62 The feds tasked SNC Lavalin to lead the early studies, code named Blue 22 (goal: Pearson to Union in 22 minutes). SNC compared LRT, subway and dedicated shuttle train options. The motor coach association proposed a low-cost busway to run within the Kitchener corridor.
@StephenWickens1 I moved back downtown after my divorce. I still grimace at the thought of doubling my cost for half the square footage, but I can’t put a price-tag on the benefits of being 15 minutes away from everything I need and want in life right now.
@Sean_Hertel Remembering Bryan with awe and fondness for leading York Region into the era of rapid transit and transit-oriented development. His legacy will endure for generations.
