26 years ago, on January 8, 1999, I was present in Louisiana's death chamber when Dobie Williams was executed. Dobie was an innocent Black man with an IQ of 65 from a dirt-poor family, convicted by an all-white jury on the basis of an un-taped “confession” and shoddy forensics.
