The real "morning routine" nobody tells you about:
1. Eat a reasonable dinner, no caffeine or alcohol
2. Stop looking at screens around 9PM
3. Get into bed by 10PM
4. Relax, meditate, do some light reading
5. Wake up early feeling fucking great and ready to go
If you never spend any time alone,
you can’t think independently,
you can’t learn with real depth,
you can’t reorganize your own thoughts,
you can’t understand what you truly want from life.
Time alone isn’t lonely, it’s mind-fixing, it’s life-changing.
Some Stoic Keys to Happiness
1. Do good for others
2. Find beauty in the mundane
3. Focus on what you can control
4. Memento mori (life is short)
5. Love the people that are in your life while they're in your life
Many people don't know what they want to do because they haven't invested enough in themselves.
You don't wake up a morning suddenly full of ambitions.
You keep training and refining yourself, then you naturally understand.
1) Try something; anything.
2) Get feedback on what worked, what didn't.
3) Listen to that feedback. Don't protect your ego.
4) Keep what worked, replace what didn't.
5) Repeat this until you die.
One day, you’re going to wake up as usual, and someone you love will be gone.
Never take anyone for granted, appreciate the time you have together, make sure you sincerely express how you feel.
The person you marry is the person you fight with. The house you buy is the house you repair. The dream job you take is the job you stress over. Everything comes with an inherent sacrifice—whatever makes us feel good will also inevitably make us feel bad.
If you have to look for what you enjoy in life, then you’re not going to enjoy anything.
The truth is that you already enjoy something. You already enjoy many things. For some reason, you're just choosing to ignore them.
Why don't we do things we know we should do? Because we don't feel like it. Every problem of self-control is not a problem of information or discipline or reason, but, rather, of emotion.
