I admired his research skills. At IDSA, he had headed all the important sector studies and edited and published the leading chapter on India-US relations under the Obama administration in a well-acclaimed book.
His other books were also well acclaimed. I was among the very first to see the exclusive photo and hear the story of Mr Ratan Tata's love life when Dr Mathew returned from the USA after securing them from Carolyn Jones, incurring all the expenditure from his personal funds.
I was also distressed when Mathew told me that Shantanu Naidu had published his property—the famous photo of Mr Tata in a banyan—and then attempted to manipulate book reviews by telling people that I should have written chapters about him because he researched, obtained and published the unique photo of Mr Tata. If true, a public apology is immediately due.
